Hi all well a good day for me today too (can you see my halo shinning from there lol) and tomorrow OH is out for the evening tomorrow so I have already got my veggie curry (frozen from a batch made two weeks ago) and my quorn tandori bites out to have a syn free Indian yummy.

Well done to all the losers Marjorie, Fox, Jenpotab and Moo.

Jenpotab -have a fantastic time at Buckingham Palace - the kids day there looked great. I can see how you lost 3.5lb after being at the Wiggles - doing the DVD is bad enough :rotfl:

Pug - I hope your cheeks are a bit better today :p

Lois - thanks for all your quotes of the day - they really do help

Delly - never mind missing class for once it just means you know how you have done and you can recognise it so that is great progress. Also sounds like you are right back in there with your plan so well done on that.

Ems you have had some great weight losses in the past few weeks so this is just a little blip and I am sure you will be fine.

Loopyloo - so cool that you resisted the cakes and then the curry :A two of my favourite vices along with chocolate, crisps, alcohol, bread, cheese, well infact food ........

Pheobe good luck with SW and if you have any questions let us know - one thing I wondered is whether it may be worth ringing SW, if there is a number, and asking if it's possible to do a trial as your not sure whether it will work for you having followed WW and see what they say - may be worth a try as no doubt they would love to convert a WW follower lol

Good luck to everyone else and apologies if I have missed anyone out

  • Hi everyone

This is a great thread, everyone is very supportive and motivating and I'm trying so hard to lose weight I thought I would join.

I'm going on holiday next week and wanted to lose weight before I went. I had 5 weeks and thought I'd be able to lose nearly a stone in that time. Well I started with Atkins diet and stuck to it rigidly for 3 weeks. Overall I want to lose about 25 pounds, and in 3 weeks I lost 3 pounds!! I was so disappointed so I decided well maybe my body doesn't like the Atkins diet.

My mum said she had been successful with calorie counting and her mother was told to stick to 1000 calories a day when she needed to lose weight after a stroke. Ok I thought, if it worked for someone else in the family it should work for me.

I have been on 1000 calories for just over a week and I've put on weight!! I can't believe it, it's so disappointing when you try really hard to achieve something and get nowhere. In four weeks I have lost 2 pounds - it's almost laughable!!

Is there anyone out there with similar experiences? Any ideas how I can get my body to give up its fat?? I'm not quitting yet, and I want to increase the exercise I do but I keep telling myself, the scales will show a result soon and they never do.

    is how I feel!!

Hi Tigerlily, and welcome along, you've come to the right place for support and advice.
There are lots of factors involved here.
Some things that work for one don't neccessarily work for others, does your body retain water, do you drink enough water, what kind of things were you eating on the 1000 calorie days.
I am very successfully following Slimming World but do mainly green days (veggie), if you like meat etc why don't you try it on the red days.
I can honestly say that this is the only healthy plan where I have been able to keep the weight off once I'm where I want to be. I do go to class which helps but when you're at target, you don't pay.

Others will be along to tell you their opinions, good luck

    Hi Tigerlilly,

I, like you, have tried loads of diets - atkins, gi, counting calories and that. I think the problem with the calorie counting is that women need about 2000 calories a day. If you go too low then your metabolism goes all wrong so you won't lose any weight. My own experience of the atkins is that its just plain awful, I felt dreadful and had smelly breath!

I've tried time and time and again all these diets and given up, put on weight, felt ill etc.

I've now been going to weight watchers for 5 weeks and have lost 9lbs in total
    (1.5lbs today:j)

I was sceptical, but it really does work. I'm eating better than I ever have in my life, and I'm not hungry and I can eat whatever I want so long as it falls within my points for the day. I go to the meetings with my dad and we really enjoy, didn't think I would - have been once before and never ever stayed for a meeting - needless to say it didn't work.

My advice would be to go on your holidays, enjoy yourself, have a break. Come back and think about WW or Slimming World. If you starve yourself or go for desparate measures you may just find yourself dissapointed before you go or when you come back.

    Have a great time :)
