Scales are evil anyway, it's the fastest way possible to undo a positive mindset - you only need to have crept up a tiny bit and you feel like jacking in the whole diet. Consultant's advice is good. You WILL get there though ... you CAN do it! :T0 -

My schedule doesn't allow for any sort of regular evening stuff so a club was out. I just kind of got to thinking about how fat I was and then I found this thread and hey presto, the weight is coming off! Maybe if I do really well I'll start my own brand of weight loss club and you can join that ...?! :rotfl:
Welcome in, everyone's lovely and it's been the most amazing form of support - I wouldn't have stuck this out without the great help from the girls and Suggs in here.0 -

Ok, I'm in. I definately dont drink enough (water that is
)and I think that contributes to the headaches I regularly get.
Yay, a challenge!!! If you don't drink much water, it will definitely be a cause of headaches and lots of other nasties too.
Sorry Lois, I didn't read past Suggs post before I answered, and I see I've doubled up on your reply. The only difference is that we don't ban fizzy stuff, but do recommend it's limited.
KatiePC It looks confusing I know, but the difference is if you were concentrating on speed foods (indicated by the S in the green circle at the side of 28gms Houmous).
You would be allowed 57gms as a HEB, but if you wanted it as a speed food, you would only get 28gms.
There are (as Lois says) other examples in the book which can be explained in the same way (eg. stewed apple).
Is that any clearer
As for the fruity cheeses, I would have thought that the calories are greater in the cheese than in the fruit, so if you had 28gms of a Wensleydale which just happened to have fruit in, then you should be fine. I can't imagine it's any different than having a hunk of cheese with fresh fruit on the side.
Hi Kimmy and welcome. As far as SW are concerned, as long as you had an uncomplicated birth and you feel well, there's no reason not to be watching your weight, and, of course, exercising can only do you good at any time. Are you breastfeeding though, because you shouldn't cut down too much if you are. Make sure you're getting lots of calcium (milk and cheese) and at least 5 a day fruit and veg along with sensible portions of protein, fibre etc. Your HV is really the very best person to advise you.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Hi All:
Just back and I am now down to 11st 12, so a 2pd loss and my first half a stone. Im so motivated. I was really hoping to treat myself to some ice cream but after the weigh in, I decided against it.
Ive been reading through the posts about water intake. I definitely drink too much tea... so as a start will switch to decaff and aim for 8 glasses starting tonight. Already had 1 glass and now on glass #2.
Welcome to the new members. This is a great thread with lots of support. Well done to all the other "loosers" as well.Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest. -Mark Twain

alyssa_mae wrote:is that about 8 glasses of water a day? I'm rubbish at remembering to drink water but I'm off to get a glass now and I'll aim for another 7 before bed time. I've got to try and get that 1.5 lbs i've put on in the last two weeks off by monday.
Have you tried carrying one of those sport type bottles everywhere you go and be sure to have a drink every time you notice it in your hand. If you can't do that, set an alarm for an hour - when it goes off have a glass of water and set it for another hour.......and so on through the day.
This is from a report I found on the net some time ago:-
There are many forms of metabolism going on in your body right now, but the one we are talking about it the metabolism of fat. This is actually something that the liver does when it converts stored fat to energy. The liver has other functions, but this is one of its main jobs.
Unfortunately, another of the liver’s duties is to pick up the slack for the kidneys, which need plenty of water to work properly. If the kidneys are water-deprived, the liver has to do their work along with its own, lowering its total productivity. It then can’t metabolise fat as quickly or efficiently as it could when the kidneys were pulling their own weight. If you allow this to happen, not only are you being unfair to your liver, but you’re also setting yourself up to store fat.
Eight 8-ounce glasses amount to about two quarts of water. This is okay for the average person, but if you’re overweight, you should drink another eight ounces for every 25 pounds of excess weight you carry. You should also up this if you live in a hot climate or exercise very intensely.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

so far today I've had 3 glasses of water. 1/2 diet cherry coke and 2 cups of tea. I'll aim for more tomorrow. I shall buy a small bottle of evian water to carry in my bag then keep filling it up with tap water. Does your bladder eventually settle down? cos i keep having to go toilet every 30 mins. I'm going to be up and down all night at this rate.HOW MUCH ?0

Yes it does I promise :rotfl:
This is another bit from the report I posted about earlier (it explains better than I can):-
During the first few days of drinking more water than your body is accustomed to, you’re running to the bathroom constantly. This can be very discouraging, and it can certainly interfere with an otherwise normal day at work. It seems that the water is coming out just as fast as it’s going in, and many people decide that their new hydration habit is fruitless.
Do take heed, though. What is really happening is that your body is flushing itself of the water it has been storing throughout all those years of “survival mode”.
As you continue to give your body all the water it could ask for, it gets rid of what it doesn’t need. It gets rid of the water it was holding onto in your ankles and your hips and thighs, maybe even around your belly. You are excreting much more than you realize. Your body figures it doesn’t need to save these stores anymore; it’s trusting that the water will keep coming, and if it does, eventually, the flushing (of both the body and the potty) will cease, allowing the human to return to a normal life. It’s true. This is called the “breakthrough point.”
Hope that makes you feel better!!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Right guys
This is my last post before hols. We leave home at 5am tomorrow. Had a naughty chinese before but have been good for rest of the day. Am intending to be reasonably good whilst away, but am not going to worry too much.
Will catch up with you all soon.
Good luck in the next two weeks.
