Hi Moira and welcome back, don't think we have met before. Sounds like a good idea to reward yourself with little incentives if you loose weight. I have never attended SW or WW but could do with a bit of encouragement like you. This forum is great I am relatively new but Lois's 2LB club is a real motivation for me and everyone is so friendly.. I hope you treat yourself to some nice clothes once you get onto your target. I use Ebay a lot as I am so tall and I have found some real bargains so give it a go and see what you can get. Got two lovely Monsoon Dresses can't have been worn more than once. One was £22 one was £11.

is appearing to be working better than others would you say pls? I've just come back from a months trip and now need to get the brain into gear and really do something about my weight.

Whilst away I noticed an awful lot written whereby people had lost vast amounts with Scottish Slimmers and also Lighterlife. Has anyone heard anything about these? I would really like to lose 3st but 4st would be acceptable ;):D . I think it's a case of me losing weight and also the dog who has also got rather a round tummy these days :p. Many thanks.

    Hi all

Well got back from holiday on Wednesday and today I was brave enough to weigh myself - suprisingly only put on 1lb so now 1/2lb over the stone bracket (Lois can you record my 1lb gain for this weeks 2lb club please). I am actually really pleased with that as I didn't consciously stick to the plan but must have done something right as previously a two week holiday would have meant 3-4lb on

    Moira

Wow, that is really excellent. A fortnights holiday could easily mean a gain of up to a stone, so you should be well pleased :T

Lara I know nothing about Scottish Slimmers but Lighterlife is, I believe, a liquid based diet. If it's the one I'm thinking of, I wouldn't waste your money. I think it costs a fortune and at the end of the day you need to learn new habits which will last you a lifetime. You can only do that by re-educating yourself to cook and eat healthy real food. Look at some of the recipes posted on this site and you will see what it's all about. It's real, nourishing, comforting, healthy stuff which will keep you full and satisfied. The weight will come off at a nice, steady rate and if you've learned new habits, it will stay off.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

jenpoptab, I really hope you don't let feeling guilty about being off work stop you enjoying your camping trip. It sounds like you do a very worthwhile job, and you definitely deserve a time-out with your family. I am sure everyone will get into the spirit of it when you're there - have fun!

Suggs, the thing that's SO cool is that 13 times in a month is massive and solid committment. I tend to go for 13 hours but only once, then it's forgotten. Well done!:j

Well done lisele:T , and I hope you enjoy your 'unemployment' - after all that hard work you definitely deserve to.

I have been told this afternoon that the car needs £600 spent on it  (brakes all round are knackered). OH is now redundant and we're only just learning to cope with a mortgage. At least the garage are doing an interest free for 3 months deal but then it's an APR of 29.96%
I thought I did very well to only have a single bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk Turkish :A in response to the news!

Tomorrow we do the deed _pale_ and get the brakes fixed, and then I am going to spend a good hour sorting my paperwork and re-doing a budget. Think we might pop in to Lidl while we're in town, see if we can't make the best of the petrol outgoings by bulk-buying some cheap tins ...! :money:

If I manage to lose weight in the face of all this comfort-eating-causing stress, it'll be a miracle - but I'm going to do my level best!

I'm not following any plan (and I fully expect to lose less weight as a result of this) but I am slowly (and hopefully permanently) changing my eating habits so that I am living a healthier lifestyle.

I don't know about the above plans but I do know of friends who have used Slimming world and Rosemary Conley to good effect.

I am losing weight very slowly so far it seems (am very naughty and weigh myself lots :o ) but all I am doing is short regular workouts (Rosemary Conley DVD is top notch!) and changing my portion sizes and meal choices gradually.
I didn't get fat overnight, so it won't come off quickly!

Lara, I swear by SW because it's the only one that's benefitted me and I have seen what it does to others.
I don't know the ones you mention, sorry.

Thanks to you all for your help. Apparently Lighterlife is a packet food which costs in the regionof £45 + each week. So I think I will be giving that a miss!!

I do Pilates three times a week but haven't seen any change at all in anything about me but I enjoy the classes nonetheless! I try to swim and go to the gym in between - when I have time to spare. That means I may get down to the gym once or twice a week but do manage half an hour swimming early morning about two to three times a week. Now I have to get myself back into the mode after a long break but have today booked next weeks Pilates classes :). So that 's a start. I'll try and remember to come on here aswell and hopefully I'll keep on the straight and narrow!
Many thanks once again. I'll zoom back now and look through the thread for a bit tonight!

Oh Eels. Sorry to hear about the car. What parts of the brakes are knackered? Discs and pads can be relatively easy to change (useful if you know someone who does their own car repairs to supervise though and also if you don't have a jack and axle stands then they can be expensive to buy) especially on slightly older cars (10yrs ish are the ones i've tried on). £600 seems like alot to me but i've only had older cars and never had anything to drastic go wrong (had to have some cylinders changed on the rear of an old metro which had brake drums which was quite pricey but around the £200 mark). If it's a newer car then i'm clueless!

You could always phone a couple of garages in the morning to get some quotes and compare. I am, by no means a mechanic, and have only ever done a few bits and pieces to my car so don't for a sec imagine that i know too muc about the subject!

Hope it works out. Really well done on the choccy willpower!!

Thanks Jen. It's OH's pride and joy, a Toyota Celica, and we were in Budget where we have found to be cheap in the past. Personally I want to ditch it - it's totally impractical and his life savings are tied up in it. But it's very special to him (he bought it with money from his ex-wife buying him out of his house, and to him it's all he has to show for a lot of 'wasted' years).

I want to sell it and buy a second hand Skoda but there's a bit of an image issue for him - sports coupe to practical estate car ... :o;)

Thaks very much for your thoughtful post.

Suggs: Sadly, when I said I had submitted my PhD--it means that I've finished it and am waiting to be examined. I wish I meant I had passed. I have a 3-4 month wait until I meet with my 2 examiners who after reading it will spend about an hour and half asking me questions about it. Then I will discover if I've passed. But at least my hard work is done for now.

I think the secret to my running for 29 minutes is that I go slow--I am only moderately faster than my walking speed; I can run faster (not much though) for short periods of time. I'm hoping that I will start to get quicker.

Up too late to make any sense. Good night all. lisele
