I made some banana bread a few days ago and put some cocoa-powder and chopped chocolate in (30 pence a bar of "Value" chocolate from the Co-Op) instead of dried fruit and it's ruddy delish zapped in the microwave on "defrost" for a minute to warm it and served with a dollop of creme fraiche (this week's rather lavish treat at 60 pence a tub).
I've got a jar of raspberries in syrup stashed away in the cupboard and intend to make a sponge-mixture and turn it into a sort-of upside-down cake-thingy. That should be good with the creme fraiche, I hope.
I did!!! I'm eating a slice of it now and very good it is tooand the rest of it is in the safety of the freezer, phew!!
That sounds good with the chocolate and also warming it up in the microwave, will have to try that next time or when I defrost my next slice (hope that I have the willpower to make it until next weekend lol)0 -
Try it now. Try it now. Try it now. Go on, you know you want to. Tempt. Tempt0

Some flapjack cupcakes today. They're a basic fairy cake batter, topped by a flapjack mixture, the recipe is from a M&S cookbook and DH is already on his second.
Also got some wheaten bread in the oven now, yum yum.0 -
Made a chocolate beetroot cake using some frozen beetroot puree I had stashed in the freezer from last years harvest. I think I will probably make white chocolate frosting to go on top as I found a bar of Sainsburys basics white choc lurking in the cupboard that I bought OH months ago but it was pretty nasty to eat on its own.
I'm in the process of working my way through all the odds and sods of frozen fruit and veg to make room for the next lot when they ripen so I have to come up with stuff I can bake with beetroot puree/grated beetroot, unsweetened applesauce, seville orange juice and a few handfuls of blackberries0 -

Do you double bake them? Does the sponge rise if it's underneath?
I made the weetabix brownies, not bad, and nowhere near as rich as the normal ones. Staying in the cookbook.

Nope I didn't double bake them, the sponge only contains one egg so it's fairly strong and rises ok under the weight of the oat mixture, although not as much as a 'normal' fairy cake would so you need to fill the cases up to the top.0

I made a 750g loaf in the breadmaker really get the hang of it now I delighted to say. Yesterday I made the pizza dough in the breadmaker and that was successful, and I made a terrific pizza my daughter and her family loved it. I also today tried to make my first bread pudding,it was a failure I am afraid, I followed the recipe to the letter or so I thought it said to add the mixed fruit last which I did. I thought it would sink into the pudding while cooking but of course it didn't, so when finished all the mixed fruit was on top burnt and like bullets Lol so I scraped them all of, the pudding tasted really nice pity about the missing fruit though, my excuse I am only learning. any advice would be most welcome.
