I've found lovely ones in Morrisons and Sainsburys. Morrisons recently had animal print ones! And I got some lovely gingham-patterned ones in Sainsburys (I think). It's becoming increasingly common to see brown cases in the supermarkets now, which is lovely if you're making chocolate or other dark coloured cakes.

Thank you-there weren't any in the little Sainsburys near me so I might head over to the bigger one. Most of the places in town don't have them or they are extortianate!

hello i hope ive put this in the right place and hope you dont mind me asking..

ive been baking some lovely cupcakes lately but havent been able to ice them because they look like volcanos!!

Im wondering whether to take out baking powder especially if the flour in the recipe is self raising too? surely you dont need both?

also the old chestnut about the heat in the oven, do i have it on way too high (although im just following instructions!)

Should i try both, is there anything else anyone can recommend?

    thanks! x

I find that mine too go like little volcanoes, usually I find it's because I put too much mixture in the cases.

    Hi,

Sounds like your oven is too hot. Mine were like volcanoes until I turned down 15 degrees or so and now they are lovely and flat on top :)

I'd turn it down 10 degrees and try again and see. If they're still like volcanoes, turn it down even more next time!

Can you post the recipe please.

This was the second batch i've made and they're de-lic-ious! :D I got the recipe from here:

Reading this has made me determined to start baking. There are always way too many excuses why 'I can't'... Kids who need to be entertained, husband wanting his tea and a mound of washing etc. I'm going to make a pact at the weekend to bake some buns with my little boy. Fingers crossed it is not going to make too much mess!

    Baking + kids = entertainment! (+ lifeskills!) :D
