  • I never get to post on this board 'cos I'm such a lazy moo cow, but yesterday I really did some baking with the kids. We made Twink's Hobnobs, great success, and John Barrowman's Banana Bread, just as yummy. Will make every effort to do this more often with the boys.

Off topic....thought I was going a bit nutty, but Rikki's Avatar is actually winking, thought I was having a funny turn.

I made cherry cake (for only the second time in my life) and had a disaster. After putting in the last egg I switched the mixer on and picked up the half-shells to scrape out the last residue of eggwhite (since the eggs were rather small I reckoned I needed every scrap of egg 'liquid') and I dropped the last half shell in the mix. When I turned the mixer off I first turned it right up to high speed. By the time the mixer stopped my cake mix had loads of little bits of eggshell distributed evenly through it.

I picked through the mix and turned and stirred it - picking out every bit of eggshell i could spot (luckily the eggs had brown shells) and quite a bit of mix as well. I'd got 4 oz. butter and 2 free-range eggs (and shells) in the mix so I decided to carry on even though I wasn't convinced I'd found every bit of shell.

So, if I never leave another message, I've probably choked to death on a bit of eggshell.
