Afternoon everyone. Just baked a bunloaf and a cherry cake - yesterday I made chocolate brownies. I've come over all "domestic goddess" - don't usually bake but really enjoyed it so intend to carry on. I'm very intrigued, carrie, how do you make doggie turkey treats? Our doggie would be thrilled if I baked specially for her!

it's so simple to do and very cheap as I used whoopsied turkey mince :) It's just a variation on a liver cake recipe I got from the internet somewhere

    Turkey Treats

    4 oz minced turkey
    2oz S.R. flour
    1 egg
    1 TBSP tomato puree
    1 handful of oats
    1 handful of cooked carrots
Roughly 1 TBSP chopped parsley if you have it. ( I didn’t have any so I used a couple of sprigs of thyme and a teeny bit of rosemary instead, you could leave this out if you want)

Grease a couple of baking sheets ( I just brushed mine with a thin layer of sunflower oil)
Put all the ingredients into a food processor, blender or mixing bowl and mix until you have a smooth-ish batter. You might have to add a little water if it’s too thick or dry. You want to be able to spread it out easily but don’t want it too runny.Divide the mix between two baking trays and spread it out over them with a palette knife or spatulor so it’s fairly even, but no need to be too fussy. It does look a bit thin at this stage, but it will puff up a wee bit with the S.R flour ;) Bake for about 15 -20 mins at 170-180 degrees, cool on a rack and then cut in to strips or squares whatever size you like ;)

Something was mentioned to me the other day regarding dogs getting onion and garlic in foods we give them so passing this on to you incase you are not aware - Garlic is poisonous for dogs and garlic powder should certainly not be included in any meal cooked for a dog. Small amounts of onions and garlic can cause red blood cells to be destroyed in the blood vessels, causing anaemia which can be fatal or, in the very mild form, lead to low energy levels. Garlic can also cause problems in the intestines leading to vomiting and diarrhoea.

  • I knew about the onion but not the garlic, I though it was ok as I've seen garlic powder on ingredient list on some doggie treats in the shops, I will leave this out in future thank you,Would you edit it out of the recipe quote please :)

Has anyone ever baked savoury parmesan biscuits ? I bought some VERY EXPENSIVE ones in my local farm shop as they had samples and were delicious, and then tried to make them with poor success. Theirs were like savoury shortbread - crisp with sundried tomato and parmesan - extremely flavoursome and moreish, but mine wouldn't crisp up and stayed all soft - a bit like cheesy brownies. They were OK but not what I was after. Any ideas very gratefully received - I daren't go to Farm shop now for veggies in case I get tempted again :(

Just made a batch of the carrot and courgette muffins from the Hummingbird Bakery book. Yum! They'll go in the freezer for something to have before the gym.

I've never made them (I don't like parmesan) but I wonder if you could adapt an oatmeal biscuit recipe to include parmesan, and sundried tomato if you like it. There's a really nice oatmeal biscuit recipe in the Be-Ro book(and online here) that I like making to go with cheese, maybe you could add some grated parmesan and sundried tomato.

I've been making muffins today, I did a batch of chocolate from the Hummingbird Bakery cookbook for DH and they are delicious, and a batch of peanut butter and banana from Rachel Allen Favourite Food at Home. I haven't tried those yet as they are still cooling, but they look fantastic, as good as shop-bought muffins, so hopefully they'll taste as good as they look :D

Edit: sorry just an update - the banana and peanut butter muffins are seriously gorgeous. If anyone has this book, I really recommend this recipe. Although I reduced the milk to 200ml (Rachel says 250ml) as I thought it would make the batter too wet.

use an extra egg to make it taste better and i line the tin with greased foil, you can also add ground ginger etc to the mix
