Yesterday the girls had a teacher training day, so we had a bit of a bakeathon.... well actually they baked and I supervised! They made chocolate chunk muffins, fairy cakes, ginger biscuits, shortcake biscuits and toffee flapjacks. Today it will be frozen otherwise they will eat it too quickly.

Today I will be making some jam tarts, scones, mini-bakewell tarts, chocolate chip cookies and twinks hobnobs!

'My' Delia's chocolate Ginger Biscuits are in the oven as I speak - have never done them before. They were horrible to work with - like trying to form dry sand into neat blobs, bits just kept falling off and I wanted to add some milk or something (but didn't) I added a bit of extra syrup, but has anyone made these with more success, and what's the secret ? (They might yet turn out to be OK but wanted to make them with my 2.5 granddaughter and she'd hate the feel of this stuff - all gritty and difficult) :(

4 loaves of bread - I dont have a BM so by hand... then it all went wrong!

40 portions sticky toffee pudding, the centre wasnt cooked, despite the poke something in it and if it comes out dry technique... had to stick it back in :S

6 almond syrup tarts, was trying to make serving easier, so did individual rather than one big one, and it not only took forever, but I over filled them and also burned the edges!

A chocolate sponge with choc icing and white choc centre... the cake took FOREVER to cook, the white choc ganache or however you spell it didnt set so the centre was all runny and I ended up whisking it to stiffen the cream so I could pipe it (it was a customers birthday) and having never made a cake before, it wasn't the best time to make my first one!

18 baileys chocolate cheesecakes, and it seems I miss calculated the amount of butter when doubling the recipe and when i took off the molds, the bases crumbled...

Oh and brandy snap baskets, but forgot the greaseproof on my first batch, so they all stuck to the tray, had to chisel them off and the customers in the bar like that i messed up as they got brandy snapped off chunks!

Overall, not one of my best days! I HATE BAKING!

  • I made some twinks for us and a batch of turkey treats for our doggie :)
  • Afternoon everyone. Just baked a bunloaf and a cherry cake - yesterday I made chocolate brownies. I've come over all "domestic goddess" - don't usually bake but really enjoyed it so intend to carry on. I'm very intrigued, carrie, how do you make doggie turkey treats? Our doggie would be thrilled if I baked specially for her!
