I baked my dad a birthday cake today, he really enjoyed it, bless him, it didn't rise as well as usual, but it was still tasty and made with love for my darling dad who celebrated his 71st birthday today.grocery challenge Sept 2012 £21/£3990

Trouble is i started on it before he got home
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Well I made my bagels and doughnuts and both turned out ok. If anyone has a deep fat fryer and has never made doughnuts, I really recommend you give it a try, it's good fun and no more difficult than making any other yeast dough. Same with bagels, actually, apart from that you poach them briefly it's just the same as making bread rolls and home made are definitely nicer than shop bought. I made half poppy seed and half sesame seed. Next time I'll do some cinnamon and raisin I think.0

No probs, the recipe is on the Muffin authors site so not breaking any copyright rules, I can't believe how easy muffins are to cook!

I am def going to order her book now that I have tried one of her recipes, it was a doddle and them came out great.
I have had a brand new muffin tin since the beginning of the year, but they're a bit like bread......I can never quite muster up the courage to make either.
I made bread at school when I was 16 which was a considerable number of years back nowand I have never ever made a muffin although I do love them - especially Lemon ones & Double Chocolate Chip.....ooooh and my absoulte favourite, Chocolate & Orange

Making home-made sausage rolls (not that home-made really....puff pastry from a pack and sausage meat! hehe)
Chocolate and cherry cupcakes (from Nigella How to be a Domestic Godess book) and cupcakes just with different coloured icing and dolly mixtures on top :jWhy does my dog chase cars? Even if he caught one he hasn't passed his test!0 -

Give it a go today:j I always say 'If it goes wrong, there's always custard' - simple pour over your un-risen, over-baked or soggy creation and it'll be delicious.
Baking anything is something you get better at the more you do it. And, unlike shop-bought clones, even then you get variations. Sometimes its a bit over or under done, or too sweet, etc. But that's home-baking. I remember one of my mother's home made chocolate sponges came out kind of hard and crispy. My brother and I loved it and begged her to bake another mistake-cake.
The best tip I can give about muffins is to only stir the mixture enough to very roughly combine the ingredients.
Also, home-baked, real muffins don't rise like huge pointy mountains, like the mass produced ones.0 -
College again today. I made more doughnuts! We don't know in advance what we'll be making, if I had I wouldn't have made doughnuts yesterday. Also some maple and pecan mini plaits (yummy and very pretty), roasted vegetable and mozzarella bread, and bara brith.
Think I'm all baked out for the day now. Although I did promise DH some sausage rolls for his lunch tomorrow...0 -

Go on, give it another go with this recipe http://www.cherrytreepublications.co.uk/articles/banana-muffin-recipe I am sure it will turn out fine.
I have never made them before as I am naff at baking and they turned out lovely.
I did make a second batch to use up some strawberries and I used a tub of strawberry yoghurt instead of milk, they were the best of the 3 batches that I have made and were really moist if not nicer the next day.;)0
