My flipping parkin came out rock hard, despite the oven being at 140 and I took it out long before Delia said to. I am so cross, I'm blaming the oven again because I know it does flare up in temperature with no warning, especially if it's on for ages. I'm going to get hold of DH's grandma's recipe and have another go and actually bother putting a thermometer in the oven and keeping an eye on it this time.

Oddly enough, I have never ever ever burnt anything in our gas ovens at work, funny that :p

Next month we are moving and I will be rid of that oven forever, I can't wait! :D

I made a lemon surprise pudding and it turned out really nicely-I think! This is my first souffle!

Thanks for inspiring me bananadog.I wasn't sure that I'd mixed in the eggs whites enough, but didn't want to overdo it.It hardly rose in the oven, and I couldn't get the temperature right, even with my new oven thermometer. It was never quite on 180c.Did yours rise a lot?The top's a bit too brown, but it's cooked properly like it should and it tastes divine;that's the main thing.

    I'll try this one again.:D
  • Today I baked a caramelised apple cake with streusel topping from a great recipe on the BBC Good Food website - used some of the windfall apples from the garden and doubled the amount in the recipe - second time I've made this and another great result

2 chocolate and banana loaf cakes from a recipe by Ruth Clemens (the pink whisk.co.uk) from the Great British Bake Off - to use up some very ripe bananas - like her blog and enjoyed the tv series

and a traybake of museli slices from a recipe posted by bigmuffins on mse to use up some museli neglected at the back of the cupboard

All turned out really well and the family are enjoying them

On Saturday I baked a Lancaster lemon tart - like a bakewell tart, but with lemon curd instead, which was delicious! Yesterday I made puff pastry which took ages, but then I made apple turnovers which were gorgeous - although I only had one tiny mouthful due to being on weightwatchers!! Family loved them!!!
  • Hi marmiterules

I have made Molly cake with apple juice and it made no difference.

Made some banana muffins for the first time as I had a few soft bananas to use up, will be doing some more later with the strawberries I have left in the fridge.

    :D

I only made my first batch ever the other day and now I can't stop making the damned things, the freezer is going to be full of them!

Well, made the stawberry ones and added a strawberry yoghurt to give it a bit more flavour and it was really nice but most have gone in the freezer along with the banana ones. My 11 year old won't even try muffins unless they are all chocolate so I will be making use of my new muffin tray again tomorrow.

Double choc ones tomorrow I think.

I made a lovely carrot cake traybake. The recipe is here but I double the recipe and still bake in the same tray as the basic recipe makes a very thin cake. Then I use the same amount of icing as the recipe indicates (same surface area to cover). It has come out very well and DH and DD1 have both had rather large pieces....Highly recommended! This was also a new method of making icing for me, and I love it as it is so easy - check out the recipe.

    Hi
Mine also looked a bit odd when i folded in the whites but i didnt wanna over mix it so i chucked it in the dish and hoped for the best! haha
Mine also didnt rise (dont think its meant to much anyway) and was also brown on the top and gooey at the bottom...this is how the pics on google look so I assume it was right and the main thing is it tasted yummy :)
I need some inspiration now to cook something new...I have no idea what so if anyone has any good ideas (has to be simple for me! lol)

    Hi
Do you mind popping up the banana muffins recipe if you get a chance please? We ALWAYS have left over bananas here and the dogs become a banana addict so I figure I should probably put them to more use than just teaching my dog to roll over and high five for them when they could go into lunchbox muffins intead! :rotfl:
