Did jamie Oliver's poached pears with walnut cream yesterday for some friends and I'd have to say it's the only thing of Jamies that I really hated. The picture looks lovely, but I followed the recipe exactly and the 'syrup' was a deep and nasty-looking brown colour as were the pears, the VERY EXPENSIVE vanilla pod couldn't be tasted since the recipe asks for dark muscovado sugar the taste of which completely drowns out the more gentle vanilla, and the walnuts which you cook with the pears were horrible and needed to have their inner 'skins' removed and they went all soggy and the skins were horrible. The walnut mascarpone you serve with it was great though ! (And so was his fab fish pie which I also made).0

Today, I finished the icing for a coffee cake which I baked last night. And yesterday, we made fairy cakes with raspberry bits in them, and garlic/chilli/coriander naan breads.
Probably won't bake again for a couple of weeks though, as I still have pastry and fairy buns in the freezer to use up.GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

Got some parkin in the oven. I've never made it before but have scoffed my fair share as DH's grandma in Yorkshire makes fab parkin. I hope it's nice, although it's a Delia recipe so can't imagine it'll be bad0

Made some banana muffins for the first time as I had a few soft bananas to use up, will be doing some more later with the strawberries I have left in the fridge.
I only made my first batch ever the other day and now I can't stop making the damned things, the freezer is going to be full of them!0
