I made fairy cakes with cherries and cherry icing and of course with a cherry on top!!!
We picked a whole carry bag full and have been trying to think of different things to do with them, I simmered the cherries with some water and sugar to soften them and make it easier to get the stones out. Added to usual cake mix and gave another quick mix - the mix turned purple, kids thought it great to have purple cakes, we made icing from the left over juice from simmering......they didn't last long....have to make more tomorrow!!!:hello:0 -
My lemon drizzle is cooling in the tin while the "drizzle" soaks in mmmm

well we have a quite tight budget. We are allowed £5 for dinner and there must be enough left over for the next lunch. So basically serves 4. For that money we bought shortcrust pastry, cheap ham, 2 tomatoes, pineapple (small tin), eggs and well we had some pasta and cheese at home. And seasoning and milk.
First of all don't let men do the shoppingNot in a bad meaning, but well my OH brought me a frozen pastry and told me, there wasn't any other. so i put that in the freezer and well did my own. Simple actually. Take 200g flour, pinch of salt. mix. add cold butter 100g (well i used margarine :P). mix with fingertips until it looks like bread crumbs. Then add 2 tablespoons of cold water. mix with hands until it sticks together. well if it doesn't, just add more water. (i put in one egg yolk also before adding more water). and well mix mix mix until it's nice and well pastry looking
then find cling film and make a ball from your dough and wrap it with cling film and shove it in the fridge for 20-30 minutes. (watch tv until then
) then roll out, put in the form. find foil, put it over the pastry, shiny side down, fill with beans (can use normal dry beans, don't have to be extra baking beans). this is important so the sides of your pastry won't fall down and the bottom wouldn't make some weird bubbles
So then turn on the oven to 180C, preheat. put the round baking tin in the oven for 15 minutes. then take out, remove beans. put in what ever you like (in my case some macaroni/pasta previously boiled, ham, pineapple, tomato). then pour over with egg mixture (5-6 eggs, seasoning, salt, splash of milk), then put in the oven. wait patiently until ready, then add grated cheese on top and let it cook 10 more minutes. if you want to know: how do i know when it is ready? Well you lift it out of the oven, you poke your knife in the middle and if you see liquid, then it's not ready and you put it back.
Bon appetite!
Everything will be better, you'll see:T:wave::hello:
