I only mentioned this to advise that, sometimes, in exceptional circumstances, the name of the debt collector involved has changed.

I used the word "debt", because, presumably, both parties to the sale regard them as such. However, one would've thought that a debt collector would know the difference.

Whilst they may be as morally bankrupt as any other private ticketing company, at least G24 know that enough victims just pay up for them to make a profit.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
  • Hi there, My husband received. one of these notices from G24 for overstaying in a toy's r us car park. At the time he didn't think he had overstayed and entered into correspondence with the company. He initially said he had taken our son to look round the shop. After feeling a bit intimidated after threats of debt collectors I sent them a cheque but then realized the date of the 'offence' was when we were away and friends we had lent the car to had parked there too long. I have now cancelled the cheque and our friends can't remember who was driving (not that I would put them in it!) that particular day as it was now months ago. My husband thought the notice was for the visit he had the week after with my son. Now it all seems a bit messed up as he had initally said he was driving and I don't know if we should send another letter explaining this or now ignore? we only heard about this scam through friends after we had started the correspondence or we would have just ignored it. Please can anyone advise now what we should do?? Many thanks.

Ignore. As you say, you wouldn't drop your friends in it, so your hubby would've got the threatening letters anyway as the registered keeper.

It was a mistake taking them seriously in the first place, but you've had a narrow escape by cancelling the cheque, and you can now ignore them.

If you want to write to someone write to this guy. Tell him you think this is a pretty shoddy way to treat paying customers, and tell him that you will never shop there again until they have kicked the scum out of their car park (even if you don't mean it, he doesn't know that).

  • Many thanks, we will now ignore them completely, we feel silly about nearly being scammed but it was the first time we'd ever had one of these and thought it was official but glad to know they cannot enforce it. We'll never be caught again!
  • Oh and I have already decided to write to toys r us and tell them what I think of there underhand tactics and I will never shop there again! I was just thinking though, they have it in writing from my husband that he said he was the driver that day, could they use that as evidence and take us to court?

Seeing you have already contacted them I would write again, stating that you realise you were not party to any parking and that you have cancelled the cheque.

It is always best anyway to tell a company that a cheque sent too them has been cancelled!

Email them as its quicker as well as writing!!
  • Thank you yes I will do that, at least then they will have that in writing too!

Their charges are unenforceable in so many ways, regardless of who was driving, that they will not even try.
