G24 Ltd using debt recovery agency

  • Hi - im new to the forum!

I have just received one of these G24 notices asking for £95 for parking 99 minutes in a 60 minute car park. I missed the sign saying the time limits and as the land isnt fenced in i didnt go through any official exit displaying any notices.

Now im not denying I didn't park there, im not sure of the time i spent there as it was a quick nip into town, however im denying i parked there on the date of the notice as the car was 35+ miles away in manchester... in an NCP (that was paid for!). The letter dates the issue and registered keeper at the 17th August, thats the date i was in manchester, at work. The CCTV screen shots, which are black and white with blurred number plates, are dated the date i was parked there. The close up shots they provide under each photo are my registration number but they are not my registration plates, due to the absence of the blue euro/GB flags both front and rear, and the spacing being different.

I have read the this thread/sub forum, and the consensus is to ignore it, and subsequent letters received from them, and their associated debt collection agency.

The only thing i am worried about by ignoring these letters is the debt collection agency. I have to have squeaky clean finances to work with my employer as i have to be fit to manage other peoples finances, so im credeit searched on a regular basis to make sure im fit to do so, im worried that ignoring this will flag something up and get me into trouble at work.

Will ignoring these and the debt recovery agents mark me in anyway that can be picked up by my employer until they give?

and i take it nothing has changed since 2010 when this thread started and the watchdog article that means they can do anything and I have to pay up?

if i didnt work for who i worked for i would be happy to ignore without second thoughts!

In short nothing has changed so ignore them

But please create a new thread as this is an old one
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

No worries. They can't damage your credit record except if it goes to court (very unlikely) , you lose (very, very unlikely) and THEN you fail to pay whatever the judge orders within 28 days. This is such a remote possibility that it's not worth worrying about.

Which Watchdog article? The reply to them by the British Parking Association? If so, what would you expect them to say?

Debt collectors have the same legal powers to collect money that you or I have.

Despite this, the final but more unpleasant threats usually include mentioning that, if the case goes to court, a county court judgement (CCJ) may be issued, that bailiffs may be appointed and that your credit rating may be ruined. For things to actually get to this stage, the car park owner would have to take you to court and win the case. Then, you would have to refuse to pay, to get a CCJ issued after 28 days. Then, you would have to still refuse to pay, to get bailiffs appointed.

There are now landmark court cases, VCS Parking Control vs. Ronald Ibbotson, S!!!!horpe, 2012, HM Revenue & Customs vs. VCS Parking Control, Lower Tax Tribunal, 2012 and VCS Parking Control vs. HM Revenue & Customs (Appeal), Upper Tax Tribunal, 2012. In these cases, the judges ruled that only the car park owner can charge for parking and take alleged offenders to court. The Upper Tax Tribunal is equivalent to the High Court and, therefore, its judgements set legal precedents.

  • thanks everyone for the replies, sorry about the digging up of an old thread, usually other forums i am on end up moaning for not doing this and then merge them!

i think im going to ignore their letters and see what happens. mind you the luck i have had this year im probably the one who is going to get taken to court!

  • really?

the more im reading into this and other cases (just reading the link posted above) the more and more i see this is a farce. like i said, i think my worry is more about getting in trouble at work/losing job!

Before VCS vs. HMRC (Appeal) they never took anyone to court. They knew that enough victims just paid up for them to make a profit, and that exposing their business practices to legal scrutiny was the last thing they needed. After VCS vs. HMRC (Appeal) they can't take anyone to court.

  • if thats the case, then im safer than before to ignore them? is that correct train of thought?

also im not happy to pay as their "evidence" they sent me isnt a photo of my registration plate! The car in the photo maybe mine (theres only 800 of that model with that trim), but its a black and white photo, therefore the car is dark grey. I have just looked out the window and my car is still maroon.
