I'm a lazy Mum - I just used to use a thin permanent marker pen and write our surname on the label of the clothes.
Our surname is fairly unusual so I could get away with it
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
I often just write my DD's name on with a permenant marker.0

I use this company
http://www.simplystuck.com/iron_on.asp and I have to say the iron on labels, are surprisingly good. My DS is now in year 3 and his labels are still on things now being used by DD in reception.0 -
I'm also a fan of a permanent marker for clothes, it's cheap, quick, you don't have to worry about the label coming off/being ripped off. If you've had to buy a new item of clothing thru-out the year you can add the name on in seconds no need to find time to get the needles, cotton or iron out.0

If you're using a permanant marker and likely to be passing the clothes down to another child, just write the surname, unless it's a very common one.0

I just write on things with a permanent pen. It does fade over time, so I give everything a quick glance as they come off the line/tumble drier and put it to one side to redo if needs be.Here I go again on my own....0

if you're using name tapes remember to get two childrens for the price of one by putting the first childs initial before the surname and second after - ie john & kate smith - "j smith k". Then just cut off the appropriate initial. One order does both0
