If you use your mirrors as you should then, yes, less than a second.
Try it.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
I can't think of any other response than "you're completely and utterly incorrect, and driving without due care and attention".0

I'm shocked.. I expected better than that
Even driving up a motorway your mirrors should be checked at least every 30 seconds or so for your own safety!
Unless you are one of those drivers who stares straight ahead until they have to make lane change & are suddenly surprised by the fact that there is traffic all around them?
Trust me, it takes less than a second to to check all 3 mirrors... once again, try it.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
I won't be trying it. I'm not that careless. I also don't particularly appreciate people with such views trying to educate me on the benefits of proper observation, when those people don't appear to have the first idea what the word means.0

Ah, the "lifesaver shoulder check", are you an ex biker by any chance? I still perform this quick but essential look, to check for blind spots, and particularly when using a slip lane immediately after an off ramp joining my motorway, it is very useful/essential on the continent in a RHD car.0 -
indicate,or not indicate thats the question
some time's you and other times you do not ,we all do it .
no one is perfect,
same has forgetting to turn them off ,
get on with your lives and live with it ,
learn to read the road ,indicaters are not the be all and end all ,theres other thing that show you what there doing, learn it or get off the road
if i have to explain this you should not be on the road ,just think before you ask,and think about how you drive and what you do when driving,
and that will explain it for you ,
you all should beable to answer it for me ,if you cannot give it back to dvla and keep the fools off the road
most of you drive with blinker on,so i might be asking to much to start with ,prove me wrong ,put you will not
nightthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -

Cyclist of many tens of thousands of miles, but the shoulder check is just as useful in a car as it is on a motorcycle. I trust to it more than I do a mirror check.0 -
Has anybody else noticed a new breed of idiots who think it necessary to indicate right when going straight on at roundabouts - particularly at mini-roundabouts?
It's probably even more dangerous than not indicating left before your exit.
I've seen a couple of incidents where pedestrians have narrowly avoided being hit, having been misled by the indication and started to cross the road.0 -

Really, you want to try braking with one hand and signalling with the other, while negotiating your way through other traffic. Or maybe you haven't been on a bicycle since you were 12 and pottering around on your Raleigh Boxer.
Sometimes the flashing lights give you the opportunity to make actually make a decision that will prevent you from going to hospital. OK if someone is using them incorrectly then it might cause an accident (since when have hazard warning lights been thankyou lights).
I used to cycle a lot (used to go out for 40-50mile rides) but haven't really cycled for about 12 years after some idiot parked on the side of the road pulled out in front of me (without indicating) and I did a not very good impression of superman. Thankfully I wasn't badly injured, but after that I lost my nerve and don't cycle much anymore.
That's the root of why I don't like people who don't indicate, if that fool had indicated I might have been able to avoid the accident, some drivers don't realise the damage they can do just because they are too lazy to flick a switch.
I've grown to dislike cyclists because sadly far too many nowadays (from what I've seen the majority) think the highway code doesn't apply to them. If you don't stick to it why should you expect drivers to? Before anyone asks yes I do treat cyclists properly when I'm driving even though they often annoy me.
@ Inactive so are you a cyclist or a BMW driver (or both)? You know fully well what I mean by hand signals....
