One of my pet hates, people who fail to indicate.
When i'm in traffic i give way to other cars trying to get out all the time, but if they're not indicating i'll blank them and leave them sitting there.

I believe in the US if you are at a red light but there are no cars then you are allowed to turn right...

ie the equivalent in our courty would be being able to turn left at lights.

Can't help thinking that your lack of indication was their excuse to see what you were up to in a place where all decent people were long in their beds.;)

Yes, they do, but it's not always allowed at all junctions. Would be a good idea to implement it here, but I get the feeling that it's a bit beyond the intelligence of a great many drivers AND politicians to 'get' it.

Sorry, it demonstrates poor driving skills, and can cause problems.

A driver should only indicate if it would help another road user that is there, or may reasonably be expected to benefit from them.

And that's definitely the biggest load of b******s that I've ever read!!

Still, what do I know with a past average mileage of 100,000 a year in an artic' HGV, probably towed my caravan the same distance, had a clean licence since 1982 and never been involved in an accident :p.

If you know for certain when you don't indicate that there's nothing to see you indicate, then it proves you have a good awareness of the vehicles around you and good observation skills.

you can only use your arms if your indicators dont work, and as its an mot failure, not fixing them sharpish will land you with 3 points!
and to all those cutting me off by pulling out without indicating on the motorway, is it fun being woken up by my car pulling in front of you on the return by 6 inches at 90mph? i see your brakes and lights work!

Or perhaps - there goes PasturesNew not making the same mistake twice :p

So prey tell, what are these potential problems caused by indicating for no one's benefit? ;)

You say you indicate always, just in case there's someone around whom you've missed. That basically translates into "I'm not certain I've observed fully everything happening around me, and therefore I'll indicate to cover this lack of observation skills".

Whereas a fully observant driver will know exactly what is happening around him, and will know if the signal is required or not.

I suggest you buy yourself a copy of Roadcraft and educate yourself.

I don't agree with not indicating when there's apparently no-one around. No driver should be complacent enough to think they haven't missed something.

Or there could be a pedestrian, cyclist or car just about to come round the corner, or out of a driveway in that second when you aren't looking. Humans can't look in all directions at once.

    Or arrogant enough.
