Oh hunny, I'm so sorry :(

Is it worth getting a second opinion from another garage? How old is the car?

    Oh El, so sorry,

Could you maybe get one from a scrapyard & just pay to get it fitted?

Don't worry. It might not be as bad as you think. I'll pm you later, but I must go to pick up DD from school first.
There's a large drink waiting for you on the afternoon tea thread xxx
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in. :D

Now that you know exactly what is wrong with it, could you take it to a local garage to get it fixed? It might be cheaper than paying the renault dealer to do it. Especially if as storm says, you can get the part yourself, either from a scrapyard or over the internet. Then you are only having to pay for the labour costs.

Thousands? Methinks he's trying it on - or trying to price himself out of a job.
If you know what part you need I'd be tempted to do as others have said and ring round a few breakers yards and get it fitted elsewhere - and put that guy's contact details in the bin!
    ((((((hugs)))))) to you too elantan!

hi elantan i've just read about your bad news on the tea thread and just wanted to send a big (((((HUG))))) to you, you've done fantastically well so far and don't deserve bad news like that.

Did i read that the car is only 3 years old? if so have you any comeback until the sale of goods act etc?

I defo second the idea of a second opinion. I took car into a garage, was told it would be "very expensive" took for a second opinion turned out not to be as bad.

Anyway, thinking of you hon, pop back to the tea thread, loads of people there offering you support.

    Big hug
