Agree with you wholeheartedly Tete I just didn't want to say it as I'm always the naggy preachy one! I write down the exact details on any packet, and if its not in a packet I weigh it, for example food focus has an apple at 178g, well I cored mine and then weighed the rest, ie the bit I'll eat, and it was only 72g, not so significant with an apple, but like the cereal example of Tete's it just goes to show their 'serving' sizes can be wildly different from what you actually eat.

God, it just seems like so much work! I can barely focus on pouring the cereal on a morning, never mind weighing it! I liked doing low carb; no weighing things, no calorie counting, just keep an eye on carb values and eat as much as you like! The problem is that much organisation and preparation is needed and it costs a lot!

  • Yeah but you only need to weigh something once and you know how much you can have by sight. Helps if your crockery is patterned - I know to pour as far as the line on our bowls and to just cover the bottom of a certain pan with pasta, or use cups to measure out couscous and things :D

I know it *seems* like a lot of work but it will be worth it. Like the girls said, it makes a huge difference if you record what you eat - otherwise you feel like you're dieting and depriving yourself, but you might not actually be consuming fewer calories, so you won't reap the rewards and then you'll be disheartened and then you won't see the point in eating healthily at all!

Sorry, it's not doom and gloom really! Even if you just weigh your cereal every day for a week, you'd get a good idea of how much a small portion for future reference. (ie. What Tete said, but slower! :D)

Don't tempt me to buy new 'diet' crockery, I really want new everything for our kitchen! It can wait though! See, I'm growing as a person, a year ago I'd have just bought everything I wanted!

ETA: I know you're all just the voice of experience, I don't mind you telling me what to do! I shouldn't even have cereal on a morning, I'm planning on taking the scrambled egg route with rye toast (in my fancy diet book as a 'good' breakfast), it's much more filling than cereal so no mid-morning snacks required!

Although I have just bought Just Dance! That's for exercise though, £17.99 + cash back or £20 a month to join a gym I'll barely visit! MS in the long run!

  • You're good Birdie if you have time to make scrambled eggs on a morning! I'd love to have porridge but I never even have time for cereal :(

    Confession time:
Breakfast was cereal (40g exactly - smug!) with skimmed milk and a banana.
Lunch was soup with a pear and some WW barbecue crisps and I've just had a special K bar & some grapes as I'm in a really snacky mood today.
I'm cooking Moroccan chicken with couscous tonight, which should leave me with enough points for a small glass of wine or a biccie.

You really can eat a lot on WW if you judge it well - today I've just felt like grazing on sweet things so I've maxed out, but often I can save up points so my weekends aren't too destructive!

Yeah, I'd never have time for eggs in the morning. It's nice at my work as people often make toast or porridge here. It backfires if I'm organised and eat breakfast at home though as there's always fresh bread, real butter and lovely jam from the farm across the road *mouth waters* and it's much too tempting!

Right now I don't have time but if I drag myself out of bed 5 minutes earlier I'll be able to do it! It's just convincing myself that it's worth getting out of bed for!

  • Especially on these dark mornings, I'm having trouble getting out of bed in time to get showered.

Mm, Poddle can I come for tea at yours, sounds lovely?!
