does anyone do poached eggs in microwave? i got some of those plastic poachers off ebay for microwave, says to cook for 1 min, then stand for 20 seconds and cook for another 30 seconds but the yolk was hard
anyone used them and know cooking time for soft yolk but hard white/ thanks in advance xxx

Kath, I cook all my eggs in the microwave (except last week I discovered boiling eggs in the kettle!) and I don't use any special microwave equipment, simply crack an egg into a small cereal bowl, jab a pointed knife a couple of times into the yolk and a couple of times into the white, put a square of kitchen roll over the top and tuck underneath (to prevent splatters, just in case) then cook for about 1 minute on 65-70% power, If it's not quite cooked at that time, give it 10 second blasts a couple of times, but it will continue to cook when you take it out. I confess ALL my eggs have one little slurpy snotty bit in the bottom where that squiggly bit of white hasn't cooked, I leave that in the bowl for the cats. IMPORTANT BITS: PUNCTURE THE YOLK & WHITE AND DON'T COOK ON FULL POWER!!!!

I use eggs cooked this way as "fried" eggs with breakfasts, as "poached" eggs with beans and potatoes, and as "boiled" eggs chopped into salads or (hot) sandwiches :D
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

It's bizarre that you're talking about exploding eggs...I tried to finish one off in the microwave yesterday...it hadn't quite cooked through when I'd boiled it, anyway managed to blow the microwave door open...and killed the microwave in the process, so that was an expensive dinner! :-S

Gave blood today, and did have some little fruit shortcake biscuits after coz i was feeling a bit fuzzy, but havent had any other syns, not sure if I will have lost tomorrow or not, but I'll find out soon enough. Hope everyone's doing well!

Hi All- I bought Food Directory a few years ago, it was fab and so easy to use. They re-designed it what a disaster couldn't find anything, until they go back to original design I wouldn't dream of wasting my money on one.

Re Actifry, don't know how anyone can say they are hard to clean, they have
non stick interior, all they need is a quick wipe over. Thanks Marion for your recipe for quick meal, I had no potatoes in so used swede and butternut squash
added peppers and cooked for 15 mins.Added chopped up steak(got to admit i halved the steak and fried one half in case it didn't work out) onion, tomatoes for another 5 mins- absolutely lovely.btw there is no way I would normally have swede, but cooked this way (chip size) it tasted completely different.
I bought the new black one (limited addition) from kitchen village and it is very sturdy, in fact I have just bought one for my d-i-l and am taking it to oz next week.

I've given up trying to do eggs in the microwave so I'm putting a proper egg poacher on my wedding list! :)

Not a low syn recipe but I thought you might like this ;)

Here is a chicken recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a
    stuffing -- imagine that!

When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who
just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out.

    Give this a try.

    1 Chicken
    1 cup melted butter
    1 cup stuffing
    1 cup uncooked popcorn
    Salt/pepper to taste

    Preheat oven to 200 degrees

Brush chicken well with melted butter salt, and pepper.
Fill cavity with stuffing mixed with popcorn.
Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven.
    Listen for the popping sounds.

When the chicken's !!!! blows the oven door open and the chicken flies
across the room and lands on the table, it's done and ready to eat.

    And, you thought I couldn't cook .....
