We had a Moroccan-ish sort of a dinner. Strips of left over lamb cooked in the wok with onion, red pepper, chick peas and harisa paste, served over cous cous. The harisa and cous cous both had best before dates in 2008 but tasted fine :D
  • Oh it all sounds so lovely.
well we had roasted bacon joint (free from LIDL cos 1 day before best before date),potatoes, red Kale and leeks from community agricultural scheme (paid £70 in subs for last year plus labour). Walked down to field yesterday to harvest!Husband made mustard mash, yummy. For pudding little stcky toffee pudding (Delia Smith) to use up Christmas dates with lovely sauce including shelled walnuts from bosses tree and double cream frozen from Christmas.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses veg from the bottom of the fridge (slow cookers are fantastic). My mum used to have a clear the fridge day every week where she attempted to be creative with what was leftover in the fridge!

We had broccoli & pesto pasta a la Jamie. Really cheap using:
    leftover broccoli (25p)
    Pasta (28p)
    Parmesan (75p)
    Pesto (75p approx)
1 potato - no idea, the 25kg bag cost £6.00 so probably not even 2p!!!

Total cost - £2.05 - and it made enough for dinner tomorrow night as well!

    52p per portion!

Loving the Ministry of Food book!!!:T

Hmm, sweet and sour chicken (1/2 pack chicken breasts from a Asda 3 for £9, own brand s+s sauce) and rice from the storecupboard. So not too bad, about £2 a portion

DD away so we could indulge in FISH (she is strictly veg and does not like when we stray!). For the three of us (me, DH and DS):

Fish in breadcrumbs from the freezer: 75p (it was a 50p for a pack of two, lovely offer in Mr S ages ago)
Baked potatoes 75p (pack of 4 for £1, one still in cupboard).
    Frozen peas (est.) £0.50
Steamed greens free from the garden (mix of cavolo nero and purple kale).
4 small slices bread (free from DD's BF shop) - 2 each for DH and DS still hungry
Hummus spread on bread for above (est.) £0.30
Chunks of chocolate, pudding treat from M&S for the three of us (£1.09)

    Total £3.39, can't complain really!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I had beef casserole made in my slow cooker. 1lb of diced beef was £2 from Gabbots (I have no idea if this is good value or not?) I got a leek, 3 carrots and 2 parsnips for about £1 from the local shop. Added potatoes, stock cubes, onions and garlic that I got from my big shop.

I'd say the whole meal cost less than £4, we've each had a big bowl tonight (two of us) plus we'll have it again tomorrow night. :)
 Think happy & you'll be happy
    I :heart2: my doggies
  • Grill-up for us-sausage from bogof pack, middle bacon, vine toms and egg from Lidl, mushrooms from Aldi, fried potatoes with extra pots I did with the mash a couple of days ago and h/m bread for the really hungry!! Lovely and came in at under £1 a head for an easy treat tea.
    £2 savers club no.107 :j £36 so far.

One chicken breast battered into submission with a rolling pin cut in two (to serve me and DH) then rolled around some paxo stuffing bought in the whoopsie for 50p, peas, green beans and mash.

Was a good idea but the stuffing had a horrible aftertaste which i had to take away with a whole toblerone left over fromChristmas that I found today!
Just call me Nodwah the thread killer
