We had spag bol - half a pack of Mr.T 3 for £10 mince, half a jar of pasta sauce (this was lurking in the cupboard) with some left over wine and bottom of the fridge veg grated in to bulk out. Served with 1/3 pack value spaghetti and finished off with grated christmas cheese. Cost about 78p per portion.

this is a really good thread as I usually don't work out portion price but has really made me think about it.

This lunchtime we had soup made from potatoes, homegrown leeks, two small onions, a bit of chicken bisto and seasoning. All in all, about 20p each max. Very tasty too!
Oh, and the last quarter of a homemade loaf to dunk! ;)

We had sausage meat plait sausage meat in freezer reduced to 30p left over pastry from last week - was reduced to 20p and got two meals out of it so say 10p. mash - free potatoes (from work), tomatoes we grew last year in the freezer- free.
followed by a reduced cheese cake 19p. Total cost 59p for three of us and there is half a cheese cake left.

Couldnt find my own post here as what did you have for dinner last night and meal plans are two totally different things. As I dont eat breakfast or lunch and I dont have a family, meal plans arent something i'd ever have to do nor look at a thread on it???

Why would you need to have a family to do a meal plan?

We ate well and frugally last night. The meat was yellow stickered lean minced beef reduced to 20p, tomato sauce from the freezer made with tomatoes and peppers which I grew in my garden in the summer, mushrooms and carrots which again were whoopsied offers at 10 p each. Served with a bag of pasta shapes. This fed four of us with leftovers for the freezer.

princess well I dont see the point going to the trouble of meal planning of all the effort seeing as how it is just me and I really dont care what I eat... to me it's just fuel and an inconvienient expense :(

I do always make the most of YS stuff and use up as much as I can and often eat leftovers in some way.

If I had a partner or family then some element of meal planning even if it is just times etc would be on my agenda. Families for example have likes and dislikes to be taken into account - as it's just me I dont buy or make anything I don't like..Meal plans also dont take into account moods, whoopsies and freebies and unknown elements. I planned and bought for a coupla meals this week and that had to go out of the window as I am being pressganged into going out for someone's birthday- this has lead to me possibly having to throw away the prawns and scrap the soup I was going to make which includes other things I bought to put in it..I dont have a family to use up the items so in this instance meal planning has worked against myself and my finances.
