Left over Delia lancashire hotpot from Sunday's dinner...and there's 1 more portion for me tomorrow when OH is away
Y/s lamb from freezer, onions & potatoes from veg drawer, herbs from garden, stock cube & flour from cupboard
Tonight will be roasted veg & potato dauphinoise (made from spare potatoes when making above hotpot) then the left over roasted veg will be made into lasagne for us & the freezer, using flour & butter for white sauce & frozen h/m tomato sauce, with frozen breadcrumbs & grated Christmas cheese on top :drool:0 -
We thought we'd treat ourselves to pizza from our favourite takeaway. Trouble is, it's new owners, they took aaages, got lost, OH had to rescue them and IT'S RUBBISH! Boo, so not only a rubbish tea, but not moneysaving at all. Gutted
We had pizza too. But I've now worked out when Morrisons mark down their in-store made pizzas and managed to get 2 deep pan 14" pizzas for £1.59 each and they are just as good as our local takeaway. A bargain treat, naughty but nice.0 -
Homemade veggie chilli with mr s basics yorkshires.
The chilli costs about 40p, was dearer than usual as had chucked in a jar of passata rather than basic tin toms.
Not very o/s on the yorkshires.0 -
Last nights meal was a pasta bake...
3 slices of gammon (left over from christmas)
Pasta (a christmas present from Mum as she knows how bad the finances are)
Broccoli and cauli from the freezer (was a bit bendy a few weeks back so I blanched it and popped in the freezer)
Cheese sauce - ingredients from the store cupboard and using the last oddments of christmas cheeses.
Nothing was brought specifically for the meal so just using left overs/store cupboard
Served 2 adults, 2 teenage vultures and was a portion left for DD1 to take to school today."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Half a leftover turnip, 3 potatoes on the turn, five carrots going a bit soft, an onion, a leek, stock cubes, some cabbage, hot pepper and some fresh beef. Mmmm. Cost 2.96 on the fresh beef (not sure where to get this cheaper), but all the veg was in stock at home or cheap. Made 6 servings for about £5 and very tasty. But I live on my own.... its hard to be money saving when you're cooking for one.0

lentil soup with home made rolls. The stock was ham stock left over from cooking the Christmas gammon (it had been in the freezer since Christmas!!), a couple of spuds, wobbly carrots, some red lentils, water, garlic, a stick of celery. It was delicous and very cheap!0

When we have f/r roast chicken we save the meat and broth. We buy one jar of Pat*ks Korma sauce and make a large Korma by adding chick peas and potato slices. This makes enough for three meals for two people, and we freeze the other two for another day. We love it so much that we have at least two Kormas per week. Good thing too or we wouldn't have room in the freezer for anything else
Anyway, that's what we had for dinner:rotfl: and it was very money-saving.0 -
We had mushroom risotto; don't know exact cost, but certainly not expensive.
Half an onion, 4 oz mushrooms (from the farmers market), an ounce of butter to fry (yeah, I know, but we like it done in butter), 6 oz long grain rice (works fine and cheaper than arborio rice), a sloosh of "cooking" wine, a veg Oxo in a pint of water, a little seasoning and a few herbs out of the freezer (from the greenhouse originally).
Add a while on the gas hob and stir in a bit of magic.:D Served with a little grated Parmesan over the top.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
