Yep, I hope they are both doing okay too, sending hugggles to both of them.

First day of the hols tomorrow although DS doesn't break up until 1pm. I have the parents to take shopping and I have to take DD with me, she is looking forward to seeing her nanny as she hasn't seen her for a while. The first day trip is planned for next Wednesday, we are going to South Cerney Water Park for a paddle and a picnic and we may pop into Butts Farm so the kids can stroke the animals, that's if I don't get lost as I am driving and I have the directional sense of a cabbage :D

Thursday is a coach trip to West Midlands Safari Park with my neighbour and her little boy so that will be fun, I've also fitted in two more trips thanks to the 50% train fares posted elsewhere on the boards. We are going to St Fagans on 17th August so Kaz if you're not doing anything that day and fancy a meet up that would be nice.

We're also going to Cardiff on 31st so any advice on nice things to do there would be lovely.

I have just figured out something which might set the cat amongst the pigeons - having submitted my online housing association registration form a week ago (which is a prerequisite for being eligible for the flat) I have realised that I can't tell from the HA website whether I'm officially registered or still going through the process of application! I need to try to sort it out by phone tomorrow, or my application will be delayed (I have until the end of tomorrow to provide my registration number, or I lose my place at the front of the queue :eek: and there were others there tonight who were interested :eek:)

Oooo! Bargain Rzl the flat is FAB!!! It looks like it's everything I'd love my house to be... Oh hun, I do hope it all works out for you 'cause I know you deserve it. Fingers crossed!

Moggins - I'd love to meet up! There's nothing in the diary so I'll mark it up :D
As for nice things to do in Cardiff on the 31st - shop till you drop!!!
How are you getting to Cardiff and what sort of thing do you want to do? Will you have children?

There's a huge Primark opened on the highstreet this year, and I think the Ann Summers shop is the biggest in the UK :p

The park around the castle is gorgeouse - and best of all free... as is the museum. The castle itself is expensive. Is it the 31st of August your coming to Cardiff or July?

Catowen - that meal sounds so good.... I think I shall be pestering you for tips on the chicken! :D

Got a banana loaf in the B/M for YS teacher, so please keep your fingers crossed for me. I've had to substitute the sugar for honey (ok, I planned it and now I'm worrying it won't work!) We also made a card - pretty cream, cut out square in which we've put 3 lavender stems from the garden. Cut out some pretty printed letters to spell thank you and a poem to stick inside. It's our first attempt and I have to say I'm really pleased!

Love and hugs to all, esp the little uns recovering,

Bargain - I love the flat:D Hope it goes through okay for you.

You know what, I was so amazed at the quality and style of the flat I've forgotten everything else I was going to reply to. :o:rolleyes:

OKay what have I done today?

    • [STRIKE]Clean bathroom - including putting up blind[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Clean DD's room[/STRIKE] - Blind not done. Got the measurements wrong and we need the next size up :o
    • [STRIKE]Clean master bedroom[/STRIKE]
      • [STRIKE]Clear out under the bed as much as possible and rehome the tv so it no longer reflects the bed - mini feng shui-ing of the bedroom;)[/STRIKE]
    • Clean landing / stairs / hall
    • Clean livingroom
      • Fix blinds that OH broke last night :rolleyes:
      • Fix curtains that have come off the runners
    • Clean kitchen
    • [STRIKE]Sort out clean washing that's taking over the livingroom[/STRIKE]
    • Put away all the craft stuff that isn't needed for DD's teachers gifts, cards etc
    • Put recycling outside

    • Sort out understairs cupboard.
I'll get around to the other tomorrow morning before DD breaks up.

Didn't really register with me until tonight, but we're going to see Il Divo tomorrow night at the Summer Pops. I didn't forget, it just didn't register that its tomorrow night:rolleyes: Had a problem with the babysitting arrangements with the IL's up in Cumbria - FIL got stuck in traffic today and with one thing and another can't pick DD up tomorrow. No-one else is available with a car so we spent 4 hours trying to think of a way to still get DD up there as she's really excited about going up on her own then we though DUH!!! Why not just let her stay here...now babysitter here? Johanne is otherwise engaged so OH rang my mum who has come to the rescue :D:D:D:j:j:T:T Don't you just love mums :D

Right, I should really go and make up DD's packed lunch for tomorrow. :D Later

Kaz we're coming to Cardiff on both days - the 17th and the 31st. I just thought we'd catch the bus to St Fagans on the 17th as there seems to be a bus going from right outside the train station and then we'd explore the sites of Cardiff itself on the 31st.

Perhaps I'll leave the Ann Summers shop until they are back in school :D

Okay back again already. OH has just sent me to this post on another msgboard we both go on. It's a wonderful OS view of how things were better in the "old days" (okay, not that long ago really but kids these days would consider this stuff ancient history, according to my 5-year-old that is :rotfl:)
According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 60's, 70's and early 80's probably shouldn't have survived because first, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing and didn't get tested for diabetes, our baby cots were covered with brightly coloured lead-based paint, which was promptly chewed and licked.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, or latches on doors or cabinets and it was fine to play with pans. When we rode our bikes, we wore no helmets, just flip-flops and fluorescent 'spokey dokey's' on our wheels. As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or airbags -riding in the passenger seat was a treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle and it tasted the same.

We ate chips, bread and butter pudding and drank fizzy juice with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. We shared one drink with four friends, from one bottle or can and no one actually died from this. We would spend hours building go-carts out of scraps and then went top speed down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes.

After running into stinging nettles a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We would leave home in the morning and could play all day, as long as we were back before it got dark. No one was able to reach us and no one minded. We did not have Play Stations or X-Boxes, no video games at all. No 99 channels on TV, no videotape movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no personal computers, no DVDs, no Internet chat rooms.

We had friends - we went outside and found them. We played elastics and Rounders, and sometimes that ball really hurt! We fell out of trees, got cut, and broke bones but there were no lawsuits. We had full on fistfights but no prosecution followed from other parents. We played Knock-down-Ginger and were actually afraid of the owners catching us. We walked to friends' homes. We also, believe it or not, WALKED to school; we didn't rely on mummy or daddy to drive us to school, which was just round the corner.

We made up games with sticks and tennis balls. We rode bikes in packs of 7 and wore our coats by only the hood. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of...They actually sided with the law. This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

And you're one of them. Congratulations! Pass this on to others who have had the luck to grow as real kids, before lawyers and government regulated our lives, for our own good.

For those of you who aren't old enough, thought you might like to read about this. My friends, this is surprisingly frightening...and it might put a smile on your face: The majority of students in universities today were born in 1986...They are called youth.

They have never heard of We are the World, We are the children and the Uptown Girl they know is by Westlife not Billy Joel. They have never heard of Rick Astley, Bananarama, Nenah Cherry or Belinda Carlisle. (Possibly not a bad thing of course....) For them, there has always been only one Germany and one Vietnam.

AIDS has existed since they were born. CD's have existed since they were born. Michael Jackson has always been white. To them John Travolta has always been round in shape and they can't imagine how this fat guy could be a god of dance. They believe that Charlie's Angels and Mission Impossible are films from last year. They can never imagine life before computers. They'll never have pretended to be the A Team, Red Hand Gang or the Famous Five. They'll never have applied to be on Jim'll Fix It or Why Don't You. They can't believe a black and white television ever existed. And they will never understand how we could leave the house without a mobile phone.

Now let's check if we're getting old...
    1. You understand what was written above and you smiled.
    2. You need to sleep more, usually until the afternoon, after a night out.
    3. Your friends are getting married/already married.
    4. You are always surprised to see small children playing comfortably with computers.
    5. When you see teenagers with mobile phones, you shake your head.
    6. You remember watching Dirty Den in EastEnders the first time around.
    7. You meet your friends from time to time, talking about the good old days, repeating again all the funny things you have experienced together.
    8. Having read this mail, you are thinking of forwarding it to some other friends because you think they will like it too... Yes, you're getting OLD!
