I would have been disappointed too, because they were fake. I honestly would rather have had nothing than fake.
A friend once gave me some fake Chanel no 5 perfume. I was actually very insulted that they thought I was stupid enough not to know the difference (and also that a 'name', albeit fake, would impress me). Again, I'd much rather have had nothing . The perfume went in the bin.
I would say to him (gently), 'please do not buy me fake, I hate it, if you can't afford the real thing, that's fine, just get me a box of chocolates'.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
My OH won't wear pearls at all because of the way they farm the things. I think she just likes the diamonds and there is no cruelty involved in farming those things.0

I have actually tried to divorce my husband twice, and been defeated by the fact he isnt physicaly abusive and social services wont help. also, he turns charming when I leave. and i am really stupid and fall for it, and believe him when he says 'I am his soul mate' and he will change.
I see him now for what he really is. I stay, but , in my mind its on my terms.
thats no reason to insult me though - is it?
If you REALLY wanted to leave him I think you would have done so by now.
Maybe its the "thousands" in his current account that are holding you back?
What did you get him for christmas?“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
I think you are being harsh a bit, he may not have even know that they werem't real pearls, he may have no idea how much real pearls cost
And I think to be this annoyed still over 20 days after Christmas over a material item is a bit silly.
I think if you talk to him about it in anyway you will seem ungrateful.
My OH is rubbish at presents, I have to tell him specifically (meaning go to the shop with him) to get my presents. Its just the way it is.Debt £30,823.48/£44,856.56 ~ 06/02/21 - 31.28% Paid OffMortgage (01/04/09 - 01/07/39)

Do you think that he thought they were real pearls?0

Slightly off topic, but your OH may wish to do some research if she has an issue with farmed pearls - she may find she has similar issues with unethically mined diamonds.0 -

While in Cornwall i went with hubby and opened a pearl - cost £20 to do it but the value of the pearl was guarateed to be in excess of £50. It so happened the one i opened was identical twins (4mm) and also a rare blue in colour i have a valuation certifcate for them and iirc it was £80 and hubby opened one and had a single blue pearl which i had crafted into a ring, the value of that one as it was 6mm @ £78. Have been looking for mounts to turn the 'twins' into earrings. For me these are irreplacable and a constant reminder of our time together and a holiday. I have seen similar items in the shop for hundreds of pounds.
They didnt happen to be valued by the place you bought the oyster from by any chance:rolleyes:
I understood its the ' wild' pearls that are the valuable onesVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
My boyfriend is pretty bad at giving presents too
So when an occasion is coming up, he now buys me the presents beforehand - when i'm there and we go shopping. That way, I get what i want!0 -
I might be throwing a cat amongst the pigeons but I think you are acting rather spoilt!! All that seems to be coming across is how he always buys you cheap things and you don’t like cheap presents.
You say you have tried to divorce this guy twice but have been defeated because social services wont help and he’s not physically violent – how has this stopped you getting divorced?
No wonder he doesn’t want to spend his money on you as he knows you don’t really want to be with him.
If I were you, I’d get divorced and get half of his money and then you can buy as many pearls as want!!.0
