for my xmas present my Oh bought me pearls. great - except i LOVE real pearls. he bought me not very good fakes. I knew as soon as i opened the box they were fakes.
I am a bit fascinated by pearls, I love the freshwater ones but the real ones WOW!
for a treat I had an oyster to open and I found a golden colour pearl. I was so excited.
this christmas - my OH gave me a box and when i opened it - I could have cried - with disapointment. knowing my love of real pearls he gave me fake. and not very good ones. I would be surprised if they cost him a tenner.
its rankling and to be honest - its no2 on the list of least wanted christmas presents from him No1 was an electric knife (he was in danger of having essential bits cut off).#
do i tell him i HATED his christmas pressie. or .......just put it in drawer and never ever wear it! what do you all think?

I think I'd be tempted to squirrel a bit of dosh aside each week/month and treat myself to a set of real pearls. :j
There, no more disappointment :rotfl:
One thing I've learned in life is that fellas are crap at getting christmas presents 100% correct.
At christmas time, I take my OH shopping pick what I want then give them to him to wrap :T (he does pay for that).
I'm a happy bunny christmas morning, so yeah, shove 'em in the back of a drawer hun
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

he gets something bad EVERY year. its just this year I got really upset. he knew how excited i was cos the oyster i picked had a lovely real pearl. and then the stupid sod gave me bad fakes! he damn well knows I DONT like fakes. fake anything! does he think I am so stupid?
thats what is annoying me! and I KNOW he paid less than a tenner - I saw them in our local cash and carry - £7.99 + vat!
thats how much he thinks of me!0 -
My reaction would depend on my knowledge of the man, I think.
If I knew he just couldn't be bothered, I'd say something, but if I knew he was just rubbish at shopping for presents, I'd appreciate the effort.
Are you sure he even knows there's a difference between cultured and plastic
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

Not defending him, but its probably more he didn't think, than thats what he thinks, IYKWIM.0 -
Can i ask whether finances may have played a part in his choosing a cheaper substitute for your present?
While in Cornwall i went with hubby and opened a pearl - cost £20 to do it but the value of the pearl was guarateed to be in excess of £50. It so happened the one i opened was identical twins (4mm) and also a rare blue in colour i have a valuation certifcate for them and iirc it was £80 and hubby opened one and had a single blue pearl which i had crafted into a ring, the value of that one as it was 6mm @ £78. Have been looking for mounts to turn the 'twins' into earrings. For me these are irreplacable and a constant reminder of our time together and a holiday. I have seen similar items in the shop for hundreds of pounds.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Hes a bloke and I expect to him if it looks like a pearl, then he won't understand what's wrong with it!
I have told my OH I don't like polo neck jumpers and in the last few years I have had two from him!
If you ask for diamonds you will probably get cubic zirconia!0 -
I think if you do talk about it, then he will be upset and hurt that you don't like his present. But if you don't talk about it, then you will carry on being upset and hurt that he bought you a rubbish present. And then you will bring it up next time in an argument anyhow.
So on the whole, best to try and talk to him. Perhaps you could present it in a fun way, e.g. do you think I should choose my xmas present last year because to be honest I was pretty disappointed with the necklace you bought me. Sorry that's not fun is it. Hmmm it's a tricky one.0 -
If you don't let him know (not too bluntly) he may get something equally bad next year;)
Or something even worse.
I know this from bitter experience over a number of years. As I see it there is a simple choice: go with him to buy it or get it yourself even if it takes a while.
These days to get something I actually want, like & will use I have to get it myself as DH is the King of Where the Wrong Things Are.
If this sounds ungrateful or greedy well, all I can say is something inside me snapped on my 50th birthday when, knowing my good memory, my dislike of computer games & my lack of manual dexterity (I have RA) my DH presented me with the Brain Trainer he was wanting! It went back to the shop & he kept the money

Have you checked to see if they are the fakes you believe? Or just not very good quality genuine ones?0
