How long for 02 BB speed to settle ?

I went on a 3db profile; higher download but very, very unstable. Router re-synched every 10 minutes. Went back to the default 6db profile..
Can someone clarify this for me please?
Does re-synching basically mean rebooting? If the router rebooted itself i assume it would show in the stats as a lower uptime?
Just getting used to this ADSL milarky.
I have always used Virgin cable BB - currently have 20Mb with them - as with 2 PC mad sons (now Software engineers) we wanted the speed which was simply not available on ADSL with our distance from the exchange. Now they have moved out and I'm all alone I don't need the speed for simple surfing and emailing ( plus MSE!) so I'm looking at other possibilities. That and mid December where my 20Mb connection was averaging 1.5Mb! Now better after complaining but most evenings it was down to 5Mb.
I decided to try out O2 as I basically got 1 year BB for £0 using Quidco and O2's free 2 months offer and I'm an O2 mobile customer. So far I'm very happy as it costs £7.50pm as opposed to the £31pm I'm paying Virgin for 20Mb BB plus a phone I no longer use. I shall be onto Virgin in the next few days to cancel after 13 years of being an NTL/Virgin customer.0

My first set of stats was from my master socket (not test socket) before I removed the ring wire as recommended.

Is the DLM the reason for the variable SNRM at the moment. I've been trying as was suggested with Routerstats to see how my SNRM is varying throughout the day. This morning it was at 8db - when I switched my PC on after work today it was at 7.5db and now it's showing 6db.
I thought if it showed stable enough I would ask them to lower it to 3db as has been suggested but don't want to give myself problems.
According to SamKnows I'm 1.97km straight line distance from the exchange so it is distance.
I have 2 Netgear routers but both cable routers. I never did like Netgear with my Virgin connection. Often it lost the wireless signal and had to be rebooted. Recently I couldn't stay connected for more than 2 minutes without a reboot. Changed to a Linksys router and no dropped connections and no reboot for wireless.
So far I haven't had one dropped connection with the O2 box - keeping fingers crossed.
The random reboots will come, give it chance for the box to wear down a bit lol. Remember as well with O2 the router isnt actually yours, upon leaving them you have to return it or pay them £50!!!! its a very tempremental box that o2 & be issue!
The DLM will vary the SNR as it is trying to find the best mix of stability/speed for your line, unfortunately what most people do in this period is keep unplugging it or switch it off every night which makes the DLM think that there is a problem and they get stuck on a stupidly high SNR, maybe once DLM has stopped you could try the 3db and see what its like (from experience O2 dont like to change it whereas BE let you change it yourself!)0

Yeah to force a re-synch just switch the router off then on, the DLM will do it automatically without the need to reboot, and if the router does do a random reboot the uptime will show it. Simple surfing/emailing doesnt require much and at your speed you would also get iplayer/youtube ok too0

If I start getting problems I'll look to a new one. Pity I can't use one of the 3 cable routers I already have. The DLM will vary the SNR as it is trying to find the best mix of stability/speed for your line, unfortunately what most people do in this period is keep unplugging it or switch it off every night which makes the DLM think that there is a problem and they get stuck on a stupidly high SNR, maybe once DLM has stopped you could try the 3db and see what its like (from experience O2 dont like to change it whereas BE let you change it yourself!)
I've always left my router on.
There seems to be two trains of thought in the first 10 days. Some say it makes no difference if you reboot and others say don't touch it for 10 days. Who's correct?0

So is there no way of knowing if the DLM has forced a re-synch?and if the router does do a random reboot the uptime will show it.
There has been no random reboot.Simple surfing/emailing doesnt require much and at your speed you would also get iplayer/youtube ok too
At least Virgin's slow speeds before Christmas forced me to look at it. I certainly don't need 20Mb now.
If they want to offer me 10Mb for £10 I might be interested though but then again perhaps not.0

In my opinion its best to leave it on, and usually if your SNR has changed then the DLM is doing its stuff.0

Been with Be about 4 years. Could get a cheaper deal with O2 but I kinda like Be and any problems I've had have always been sorted out quickly.I went away and now I'm back.:j:j0

So after 10 days the DLM will stop and the SNR will stay put?Been with Be about 4 years. Could get a cheaper deal with O2 but I kinda like Be and any problems I've had have always been sorted out quickly.
I went for O2 this time as it had £75 cashback from Quidco and 2 months free so it amounted to £0 for a year. That was to give me a chance to try ADSL out before taking the plunge and leaving Virgin cable BB.
Next year I may well opt for Be - perhaps will depend on deals at the time. The Value Package that Be have introduced would probably be fine even though it has a 40Gb limit - can't see me using all that in a month anyway!0

I've heard good reports about O2 support - Be must be really good if they are better.
Mind you compared to Virgin's Indian call centres where they follow a script no matter what you say, anything would be great!0
