Ok my line stats show a synchronised rate of 6Mb - Speedtest.net shows this.

What server are you using - Derry is usually the default and it's rubbish. Change to Maidenhead or London and do another test.

It will do - O2/Be is the same.

You know i've just been playing with speedtest.net and am beginning to question its reliability, I synch at 17-19 depending on which way the wind is blowing when i reboot the router lol :rotfl: but look at these!!

I don't think I've ever had those strange readings!

Perhaps something is being held in the cache?

Maybe but it looks good tho if i do say so myself :rotfl:

Could you run this one please? http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html

I'm just reading your o2 thread to see what has already been suggested
  • Thanks guys; appreciate your help.

What I'm gonna do is a bit of tweaking and let you know what the results are.

True - I'm sure we would all like that.

    Speed Up 1001.50 Kbps ( 1 Mbps )

I'm just reading your o2 thread to see what has already been suggested

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

I don't think I'm doing too badly but if I can squeeze an extra 1Mb out of my connection I'll be happy.

Looking through your past stats + these ones you dont have any major errors on the line no lost links/signals/frames apart from a few local link losses which would have been you playing about with the extension lead etc, so you could ring O2 tech support and ask them to stop DLM on your line and put you on a 3db profile with your attenuation its quite possible (best case scenario) to get 7.5-8Mbps, but its upto you as you are already getting a decent speed for your line length (i'm assuming your far from the exchange and its not just bad line quality)

Also as a quick point I found the O2 wireless box absolute rubbish and always dropping connections, switched it for a netgear and somehow managed to gain an extra 1Mbps on the synch speed :T

I went on a 3db profile; higher download but very, very unstable. Router re-synched every 10 minutes. Went back to the default 6db profile..
    I went away and now I'm back.:j:j

My first set of stats was from my master socket (not test socket) before I removed the ring wire as recommended.

so you could ring O2 tech support and ask them to stop DLM on your line and put you on a 3db profile with your attenuation its quite possible (best case scenario) to get 7.5-8Mbps,

Is the DLM the reason for the variable SNRM at the moment. I've been trying as was suggested with Routerstats to see how my SNRM is varying throughout the day. This morning it was at 8db - when I switched my PC on after work today it was at 7.5db and now it's showing 6db.

I thought if it showed stable enough I would ask them to lower it to 3db as has been suggested but don't want to give myself problems.
but its upto you as you are already getting a decent speed for your line length (i'm assuming your far from the exchange and its not just bad line quality)

According to SamKnows I'm 1.97km straight line distance from the exchange so it is distance.

I have 2 Netgear routers but both cable routers. I never did like Netgear with my Virgin connection. Often it lost the wireless signal and had to be rebooted. Recently I couldn't stay connected for more than 2 minutes without a reboot. Changed to a Linksys router and no dropped connections and no reboot for wireless.

So far I haven't had one dropped connection with the O2 box - keeping fingers crossed.
