Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 14th January. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends.
Hmm and Lilium - good to have you with us.
SunnyGirl - Thinking of you and your family as ever sweetie.
Tru - You did so well last year, hope you have another bumper crop this year too.
nmlc - I used to be indecisive too, but now I am not sure..
curlytop - Nice to see you posting again, we missed you.
Mumof2 - how are you today? Oh and I like the Dove over night handcream.
Mioliere - Hope the Dr helped with the cough
Rosyred - If I cannot get comfortable in front of the car I can always try the next row of seats, and my OH can be the chauffeur while I sit in the back and act like Lady Muck..
Ravy - I did mention Tris on Mon and Tues.. I try not to talk about him every day unless I have something specific to say so people don't get even more bored. I am actually talking to him now and he is in a positive mood which is so so lovely to hear.
Pipkin - how are you today? Sorry to hear you have been in so much pain and well done on the lego tickets, that is great!
Bitsy - I still stick by my original comment, that that freezer will be full in a month or so and you will be saying you haven't got enough room again :rotfl:
Pippa - Sorry to hear about your friends mum
Poppy - I cheat and use paxo for my sausage meat stuffing balls, sorry to let the OS side down and everything. I do add lots of extras though and they do taste really good though. I will come back later today and post it for you as this post will be way too long already..
AnniestarsMark - Thank you for filling us in and please send her all our love.
Zippy - I know with the pilates machine it makes you ache like mad for the first week back but then it all gets easier again.
Bargain - the multi quote thing appeared when they did the last upgrade and I have used it on other threads, and it's great!
Thrifty - I just throw in a handful, I am loathe to put too many in after making a kind of beef porridge one day when my OH put in several oz's in error!
Well all our snow has gone. And my poor OH never got to see the new car covered in it so he is disappointed.. lol

Ok, so baking day yesterday was fun. I had nearly a full jar of mincemeat left from Christmas so while I was in the pastry making mood I made some mince pies. I added a whole apple chopped finely and some more cinnimon as I love it. I also chopped some crystallized ginger in half a doz, just to see how that would taste. Also made 6 large sausage rolls with onion and a little sage and onion stuffing added to the sausage meat. They have been frozen raw and we will cook as we need them. I also made twinks with ginger and raisons and some cheese tartlets. Plus of course the sausage meat stuffing balls. Thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Lunch today will be cheese and pasta and dinner the rest of the sausage and bacon spicy stew with HM bread. I must update the grocery challenge actually, now I have worked out our spend so far.
I hope today is the best it can be for everyone and that you all stay warm and safe. Be careful on the ice and wrap up well!
With love, light and
to all.

Morning Diva and all the others to follow.
Cold and frosty here. All the snow has gone which is a good thing. I was able to find the pieces to my daughters' glasses that got broken and fell in the snow. They can now be repaired for free and not £25 for the missing parts :rotfl:
Work today and then  A colleague is moving to a new dept. so it's an excuse for a drink and curry at spoons.
Went to order heating oil yesterday and almost died of shock, 60p a litre, I paid 30 in September last year. OUCH!!!! We need more stable prices.
Well must get the bins out, they have not been for 3 weeks and there is a huge pile of stuff to go.
CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning everyone!
Mmm the mince pies and sausage rolls sound gorgeous!
Dinner yesterday was very simple but it was the first proper meal I've had in days - Mash, veg and corned beef gravy. Mmmm!
It's thawing out here which means I get to go out! Need to buy the OH a new pair of work trousers. I tried fixing them but he's completely ruined them, I have no idea what he did
Oh well, have a good day everyone xWife and mother :jGrocery budget

Morning! Still looks bad out here-snow on top of yesterdays ice. Hoping that my mum is on her way and gets here safely as I'm walking to work in a few minutes. Also hoping that if its still icey out that dd's school gives you the option of risking it or not. If shes not going she'll have to watch my mum have a filling but it might make her apprecite how much she needs to brush her teeth, and I don't think that school for a 5 year old is worth the risk of falling and injuries.
Better go, hope everyone has a good day!July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.

Early start here at chez Bitsy
Foggy with lots of snow so another house bound day methinks.
BM needs to go on, WM to go on and a piece of beef for to SC.
Thats about as interesting as it gets
Diva - no way am I filling this freezer to the rafters, its nice to actually have some space for a change :T
N9eav - well done on finding the specs pieces, good job they weren't washed away with the thaw.
Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all
Sounds like you baked up a storm MSD.
Jayward good luck with the MRI scan.
Off to work soon, but I'm not attempting to get in on time, I'm fed up with risking life & limb only to sit out side for half an hour waiting for someone to open up.
I'm still very deaf & finding it very difficult at work where there is a lot of background noise from the machiery there.
Porridge for breakfast, packups done, lets hope I get chance to eat it today & there is enough lamb left for a 3rd meal.
Keep warm & safe everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning All
Snow here is still going but we had freezing fog last night which was not fun. All night drivers finished & OK though.
As OH was home yesterday did not get much done  we did have a nice time out though. Popped to a Factory Shop and got some scrapbooking supplies reduced and stocked up on jam at the Wilkins Factory - they have a lovely shop there. One day I will make my own jam but this is a very good subsitute in the meantime.
Today need to make an appointment for DS at the docs. His chest feels tight - he should be ok to go to school though. Loads of paperwork including horrible filing job  some housework and a very little ironing :j
Making lasagne today - the menu plan has gone all over the place - must do better!
Need to do an inventory of my baking cupboard as want to start making muffins again - believe I need more cranberries & blueberries.
Anyway, hope everyone is OK, (((hugs))) wherever needed.

Good morning.
Cold here but no more snow :j It hasn't yet started to thaw much but DH has cleared paths at the front and back of the house so we can get out of the doors without mishap.
I'm going to buy a coat today, well my Mum is treating me to itI needed a black jacket for the funeral and she said I may as well get a winter coat that I'll get some more use out of. I have looked online to see wihich ones I fancy so hopefully we shouldn't be long in town as Mum gets a bit breathless when we're out for too long and the cold doesn't help  I also want to pick up some more wool as I have cracked crochet finally & want to make some hats for everyone.
So lunch will be out & about, dinner is pasta bake according to the menu plan and breakfast is, as ever in the winter, porridge which is cooling as I type. A bit of ironing to do (only 2 days worth) and the usual cleaning, tidying etc etc
Essex Girl I would love to make my own jam too but haven't yet got around to itThere is a lady locally that makes jams, marmalade & chutneys in aid of Guide Dogs so I buy hers. They are gorgeous & my favourites are her sweet fruit chutney & orange, carrot & ginger marmalade :T
Have a good day everyone & try to stay safe & slip free out there.0 -

Good morning everybody,
well wouldn't you know it I thought I'd have a bit of a lie in this morning as its my day off from the school run, and even had, for me and early night .Didn't even read, and was in bed just after 10.00. I don't know why I bothered I was up and down like a fiddlers elbow all night long.Rain is definitely due as my joints were giving me gyp all night and I got up in the end at 5.30.Still I got to see my DGS Danny as he parks opposite my house on his way to work at 6.30. and a big smile from him on a rainy morning and a 'Good morning Granny' and a hug is well worth getting up for.
I shall definitely be doing some more decluttering today as now the snow hopefully is thawing I will be able to get up to the tip with some bags of junk.
I have to take DGS Ben to the dentist this afternoon.I get all the good jobs, he knows to behave and not make a fuss if I take him.He isn't keen on dentists ,though why I don't know as he has very few fillings and has never at 14 had an extraction, but just has this thing about going.Still I can always get around him as we are both movie fanatics, so he can tell me what movie he wants to see in the next few weeks.
Well time I got a wriggle on time is getting on,I shall probably burn out by lunchtime and have a snooze whilst watching the news.Awful about the Haiti disaster isn't it makes our snow complaing look a bit soft doesn't it
Take care everyone and have a good day
JackieO xx0
