Winback is cancellations-tell them you are assessing your options as you think you might get a better deal elsewhere . They have more flexibility than sales and often can offer much better deals

Got my box fitted at 830 this morning. Got the Samsung box. Guy said he had a box for each customer so no picking and chossing. Not complaining as looks a good box.

One concern we realised when the guy left was that he didn't conenct the box to the telephone.

Is this just connected to monitor usage, and so available to buy services through the box or do sky run updates to the box?

In the contract it says it has to be connected for 12 months. If Sky contact me I will just say the chap forgot.

Did see something on web that Sky just monitor if you have the multiroom option.

they will send you a letter stating that you need to reconnect the phone line or they will pull any special offers. it is also used for upgrades

don't call sales, winback are the people that have offered you the deals and not new sales.

the people in new sales cannot offer this deal and are penalised for each call that doesn't go through to a sale

It was sales who arranged the install of my Sky HD, poor guy must be in trouble as he gave me what I asked for.

I'm also an existing customer :)
  • If you have the option then I would say go for Virgin and forget SKY. You get all the same chanels plus bbc iplayer, itv player, chanel 4 player. and you know what they say "it makes the unmissable, unmissable !!!!
Also ESPN is free on Virgin and they play prem legue scot legue and pay per view programs for FREE

I tried calling sky to see if I could wangle an HD box out of them.... Said I wanted to cancel as I have BT vision and since I get that for free, paying £18 a month for the basic sky package doesn't really make sense. The best deal I could get out of them was 6 months half price, even after mentioning I'd consider staying if we could get an HD box. No offers were made at all, quite disappointed. Going to discuss with the wife this evening but suspect when I call tomorrow I'll get no further :(

I've had similar problems with Sky also, I got a call originally with the offer that expired end March but couldn't take it and now it's no longer available.

I am wondering if I'd be better of cancelling completely and get my partner to sign up as a new customer? Has anyone done this before? I've been with Sky for years but doesn't get you anything at all..

One of the Sky staff advised me to do this. I tried to get a HD offer because our picture is awful (we've had an engineer out but he couldn't help). I ended up cancelling Sky and he quietly suggested we ring back under a different name. I don't know what offer we'd get though.

Hi Blankie, if you do this I'd love to hear how you get on.
We've been told we're not in a digital switch over area and so are not entitled to any offers until 2012.

Did you get any further with this mark?

I too am on just the basic £17.50 a month "one mix" with sky+

I am going to ring to cancel in a couple of weeks and see if I can get a free HD box and free HD subscription for 12 months because there is no way i'm paying £10 a month extra for it.

If they don't offer me anything then I think I will cancel and get a freesatHD box... one off payment fo say £100 but then free HD channels and iPlayer for life.

Virgin is fine unless you already have a phone line (in minimum contract) because they force their telephone on you.
  • My friend's sky box stopped working and she was told that they would send an engineer out for £65, or she could take out an insurance policy to cover that cost and any future cost of repairs. She mentioned this to me. My advice, contact the cancellation dept and threaten to cancel, I said as she had had no upgrades since joining Sky, she should mention that a lot of her friends were getting deals on HD. Result being, she got free HD box, free installation and 9 months free subscription to the HD pack!!!:j

    Its always good to talk:D
