Morning all!
Grey, miserable, freezing and snowy here this morning, although only light snow thank goodness, might give the three inches of ice on the pavements a chance to thaw a bit! Only slipped over once on the walk to work this morning!!
At w*rk at the moment, not much going on here, mind you MSE is always far more interesting than whatever work I should be doing
Hairdressers after work this evening so not a lot of OS happening today - need to do some baking this evening as OH and I have nothing for our lunches. Will probably make a Victoria sponge (my fave!) and some flapjacks. Probably ought to tidy up the living room as well as it currently looks like a bomb has hit it
Have a good day everyone!0 -
Slowly, slowly getting the ironing sorted.
What does everyone put in their irons for the steam?
I use a fragranced ironing water from Sainsbury's, which I prefer to tap water, but wondered if anyone makes their own, as it would be cheaper.
I use the water from the condenser in my TD, it's de=-ionised apparently, and smells nice too between the washing powder smell and the TD sheets!

Mummysaver I've listened to it all on Radio 4 as well this morning. All of mine now have lunches at school/college but they all had packed lunches at primary school. I used to put things like a wholemeal bread/bun/wrap/pitta sandwich in with lean meat, tuna or cheese, a pot of chopped veg such as carrots, peppers, sweetcorn, mangetout or a tub of salad in the winter, a pot of chopped fruit or a piece of fruit, fresh orange or apple juice and either a HM muffin or bun or a chocolate biscuit :T Like many others on here (and around the country) I made sure that the lunch box had healthy things in it most of the time. The dinners that were served were not at all healthy really. This was last year too before DS3 left primary in July 09 so it was certainly well after the school meals had been overhauled  They used to serve a good selection of food but it was still perfectly possible for kids to pick unhealthy options. For example the potato choice would be wedges (cooked in oil) or cheesy mash. Veg would be raviolli (I know ) peas & carrots. Meaty would be meat pie or bacon rolls  So if a child chose a bacon roll, wedges & ravioli I'm sure it wouldn't be as healthy as a lunchbox. All these choices of food are from memory as we used to get sent the terms upcoming menu by the local education authority 3 times a year.
Sorry for the rant it's always been a bit of a soap box subject for me
Back to getting the evening meal prepped now then I want to hoover downstairs & do a bit of ironing :cool:0 -
Donny and Diva - hope your appointments go well today, and your's too Kathy!
Aussie - sorry to hear about your friend's daughter
Lowesy - ouch! Take more care woman!
Jackie - love the story about the stars, really made me smile!
Now after all the chat about yesterday's thread I'm going to have to go and have a nose immediately! Welcome to all the new posters :-)
As far as the lunchbox reports went, I can't help but feel they will be preaching to the converted really! Still I would like mine to have the option of a hot meal, big kids get the choice of more meals, but really the only things that are vaguely tasty are the pasta pots and sarnies, and they can take them in for less than they cost to buy. My youngest doesn't have the option of school dinners, as her school is too small and no longer even has a kitchen, they did look into having meals delivered from another local school, but wasn't practical in the end.
Sunnygirl - missed your post, must've been posting at the same time! I agree, the choices mean that they can choose the "unhealthy" combinations! My lot tend to buy a sarnie if they aren't taking a packed lunch for whatever reason, apparently they can buy it at breaktime and then eat it at lunch, at lunchtimes the canteen is too busy, they queue for ages and run out of time to eat! Though possibly in my son's case detention interferes more with his lunchtimes?! Mostly it's the quality of the food that isn't great, and I don't mean I'm expecting organic stuff delivered with style, just reasonable and nicely cooked (bizarely they have open days and parents can try the food, so if it's rubbish on these occasions then I can only believe the kids when they say it's awful usually!), and the portion size leaves a lot to be desired, the amounts served up are silly small, all of my children have extremely healthy appetites! Oops it's my soapbox subject too! lol!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I work somewhere like that too*primes stapler*
I have stapled a student to the desk before - he was misbehaving - and I did warn him if he didn't sit down I'd have no option but to staple him to the table. He told me I wouldn't dareHe behaved himself after that

DD1 enjoyed her works xmas party last night didnt finish till 1am and i had to collect apparently it cost £25k not surprised as they laid on 5 coaches and it was a free bar all night DD1 is only 16 but we said she could have 1 and she did so was very proud of her as some of them deffinately looked the worse for wear although what worried me was she went to the bar to get a drink and noone challenged her age she is only small 5ft2in so deffinatly doesnt look old enough.

Jinkypinks - if you think I am falling for that 'If only I was closer' excuse you can think again young lady! :rotfl:
Funfair - I am sure it IS the lack of scottish something that is making Jinks behave so strangely!:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p
Pipkin if you have the space why not opt for one of the mastiff breeds? Of course you need to be prepared to put up with drool too but they are a joy to live with. Luna is nearly 6 months old now (English Mastiff/Dogue De Bordeaux) and she is content with two 35 minute walks a day and won't need much more walking when she's fully grown.however, don't expect me to suddenly decide I like housework - not a chance:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
.
Hey I suddenly did:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: and now everyone thinks I have been abducted by aliens:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I have woken up with a sore back this morning:rolleyes: so hopefully wont be doing much, although we do need to go to the tip and get rid of all our Xmas rubbish:mad:
I reckon we are having Spag Bol tonight for the dinner.....and I guess it must be my turn to make dinner:D:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0
