First rule is don't let your dogs on the sofa. That is your high territory and the dogs have assumed control over your house....
Going to have to disagree with you there. Never had a dog that has been dominant or aggressive simply because it's been allowed to sit on the sofa. They all know the off command and get off when I tell them to. They never get up until I allow them.
They also have their own settee so yeah, that's gone out the window.
Letting your dog sit on the settee does not make it become dominant.Wife and mother :jGrocery budget

Hester and Dustykitten - thanks for the good wishes re the tutoring. It's in Literacy for Yr 6 children - 2 afternoons a week after school.
I think I mentiond that I'd lost my folder for the essay due in on Friday? Great relief when I found it in the conservatory (ok that'll have been when I was "tidying-up" for the party on New Year's Eve then!) - and I have this morning produce some 1500 words...will look again tomorrow and probably decide to scrap the lot!
I wish I could be more organised and actually have a proper place for everything so things didn't keep getting "lost"! I can hear my Mum now: "A place for everything and everything in its place!" Am I the only one who has trouble with this???
Lovely to see the newbies posting again!Resolution:

Afternoon peeps
just managed to catch up with the end of yesterdays thread and todays too as i never managed to finish it yesterday.
Later finish for me last night but when i got home i couldn`t sleep  finally nodded off around 3am and woke at my normal time at 0730, i change shifts in a couple of days so i`ll need to get my body clock reset again lol.
Bargainbird - Thanks yes i did make it in ok yesterday and amazingly the journey home was the easiest i`ve had in the last fortnight too :j
Fingers crossed for today which i`m hoping will be good as the snow has started to thaw, just hope it dosen`t freeze later
Am loving the doggie bits of todays thread, we`ve always had german shepherds until the last couple of visits to the rescue. We now have a 400 year old whippet staffie cross who is a very strange looking little man and a great big clumsy german shepherd/mastiff cross, she definitely dosen`t have the intelligence of our previous sheps and in the nicest possible way she is a bit thickshe is learning though - it just takes a bit longer with her. She is one of the most amusing dogs we`ve had - and it takes her ages to learn from her mistakes, i`ve spent many a time pulling the cats claws out of her face when she`s got a bit too close :rotfl:
Right i`ve seen the time and must dash back to wo*k:eek: thankfully tomorrow should be my day off all being well and i can spend a bit more time online.
Have good days all.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Just stopping for lunch (and a chat)
Lowesy - I hope you are not too bruised after your fall
Bargainbird good luck with the chicken pox
Good luck to the two of you off to the dentist (sorry I can't remember who that was)
Crafty - good morning hun
Going to have my favourite pud of the moment - kiwi fruit chopped up with pomegranite seeds and a spoonful of double cream.
Next plan to sort out all the stuff which is in the kitchen which shouldn't be, make some bolg sauce for lasagne later in the week and then treat myself to my wiifit time. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
I have spent an hour arguing with the WM filter.....I am not amused, after yesterdays rant at the curtains that refused to come down:rotfl::heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0

Oh the joys of living with ones parents at the grand old age of 29! Just spoke to my Mum to ask her if she'd get something out of the freezer for me (can't face the look of raw meat in the morning, even if it is frozen!) and it turns out she's done my ironing for me!!! She's such a legend bless her :A now I can have my afternoon lay down without the nagging feeling that I should be doing something :j
As for my backside - you will all be pleased to know that I am sporting no bruises, although the left cheek is a bit sore if I clench :rotfl: TMI sorry. So I probably won't be clenching for a bit, but seeing as you don't need to for like, anything, I reckon I should survive
Am off downstairs now to see if I can commandeer the sick bay for half an hour without anyone noticing for a quick sleep xxSometimes that mountain you've been climbing is just a grain of sand,
What you've been out there searching for forever is in your hands0 -
Hi everyone, nice to see all the new 'faces':D
Sequeena & Jinky - we are now on our 3rd Mastiff, the previous 2 were Bullmastiffs, not entirely sure about the current one as we got him when he was about 18months old ,from somewhere he definately had NOT been pre-loved.
We were told he was a pedigree Neapolitan, but theres no way thats true- his head is not big or wrinkly enough! Our vet thinks he has some Great Dane in there somewhere,as his nose is longer than a mastiff.Considering the start he had,he is a lovely dog, gentle and affectionate, great with my little niece,oh and lazy, likes his sleep.
Our middle one was over protective,so I agree you are sensible to get the training sorted while still young so Luna doesnt get too dominant/aggressive with other dogs Sequeena. The photo reminded me of our 1st Bullmastiff Max when he was a pup,he was a real sweetie but sadly died when he was only 7.
Anyway, better get on to OS matters-just had leftover cottage pie for lunch, tea is going to be a beef casserole.I got a veg stew pack from Lidl,so will chuck lots of those in.We now only have Christmas cake left in the pud/cake dept, which is a good thing as I put a few pounds on-aim to lose that soon.Still its better than a friend of ours who says he cant fasten any of his trousers/jeans
I need to tackle the ironing mountain this afternoon, and would like to get back into my craft/sewing room soon as I've not done any for about a month, apart from knit a scarf and crochet.
Take care everyone.x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -

Talking of dogs - my border terrier helped himself to a box of chocolates which he ate neatly and tidily without me knowing and then, not surprisingly threw it all up 3 hours later in the biggest pile I have ever seen - nice one. He is very sweet natured (!) however a little naughty!
You were lucky - ours did that and cost me over £100 vets bill! Chocolate is poisonous to dogs and as we didn't know how much she had of my Lindt chocolate (why couldn't it have been el cheapo instead), we couldn't take the chance so had to rush her to the vets who made her sick and then she had to go onto a drip.
Norty dogs!
How are you all getting on with your day? I'm freezing cold from sat still typing so am sat here with a nice hot cup of tea and my lunch. Venturing outside next; will have to wrap up warm.Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
Thanks RosyRed
If you have a picture maybe we could help identify him but vets can do DNA tests if you really want to know
Luna is amazing when dogs come into the home but she is completely different outside. She has all her basic training; sit, stay, lay down, off, wait, come etc. but she just does not like dogs and has been the same since I got her at 10 weeks.
I have not treated her any differently than I did with my GSD. She was taken out and carried before having all her jabs to get her used to sights and sounds. Once she was clear on the jabs she's out 2-3 times a day and I have a lot of friends who have dogs so we walk with them often. She is content to watch them but hates them near her.
We've been to puppy classes and training sessions, nothing has worked.
I am tempted to say it's down to bad genesThis poor girl will be on a muzzle as from Wednesday as I will not risk her safety, my safety or anyone elses or their dogs.

afternoon! just got back from shopping and have bought some new fur-lined winter boots - they are lush:D and reduced from £75 to £40:money::j so a bargain! I have reynauds so need to keep my feet warm or they go white and numb and then are really painful .
welcome to the flyladies!:hello:
this afternoon I've got lots of little jobs to catch up with(plus several games of scrabble on FB;))
On the dog subject we have 2 lurchers - a whippet/bedlington cross and a greyhound/deerhound/collie cross (we think:D) one is nearly 16 and the other nearly 8.
have a nice afternoon all xDo what you love :happyhear0
