Thinking of doing gammon later this week, maybe with lentils, leeks and carrots at the bottom to make into soup. I am however slightly concerned about cooking times. I'm out of the house for roughly 9 hours. The joint will be big enough for maybe 4 meals, would 9 hours on high be too much? Would low be better or would that leave it undercooked? I've done beef and chicken thighs on high for this long with no ill effect, but I don't want the gammon to dry out.
Also what liquid would be best? Apple juice? Stock? I'm thinking of the soup as well as the actual meat, I'm not sure how nice apple juice soup would be.....
Hi Poorlygal,
hope its not too late but i would cook the gammon on low for 9 hours.
I`m usually out for a bit longer than this and its fine.

If you're working this is exactly the time you should throw something into your SC, you can come home to a lovely tasty meal pour a glass of wine and put your feet up.
I think i may do a curry, i'll put a load of lentils into soak and see what i can get out of the freezer before i go to bed, then in the morning throw them all in.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Hi Mummyslittleboy,
have a read through the thread, its a bit long now but there are some really good ideas on here. Many people post the recipes that they are cooking (many are home made recipesIYKWIM) and it will give you lots of ideas.
Cut and paste the ones that you fancy into a word doc to save them or bookmark them.
There is a slow cooker recipe collection thread somewhere in the index too. Read a couple of pages a day until you`ve found the recipes that you like. I check in usually every couple of days to make sure that i don`t miss anything yummy:D
Good luck
