Hi saffstar
You could have put the lentils in with the gammon joint and saved on electricity and cooking time.
I do gammon/bacon joints quite often and I always add other things such as a bag of yellow split peas or a bag of marrowfat peas, both soaked overnight before adding to sc and also add a chopped onion. The end result is the joint -and pease pudding - pea and ham soup etc.0 -
Hi all, I have a gammon in the SC today.
I soaked it overnight to get rid of some salt. In the pot I made a trivet with 2 carrots to stand the gammon on and 1pt of apple juce and water.
I have it on high for 5/6 hours. If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
In mine today - chicken and veg soup.
I fried off a 2 onions and a leek in some butter, chucked it in the slow cooker with a load of hm stock. Added the carrots from the bottom of the fridge, and swede, both chopped. Also chucked in a couple of chopped potatoes. Then I opened the cupboard and found some lentils, so a handful of them went in aswell. I added some worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and some mixed herbs. Finally some shredded chicken left from the rubber chicken I cooked in the slow cooker on thursday. I'm gonna leave it on low for 6 hours.
It will be tomorrow's lunch as OH is working in the morning and then coming home to watch the football with a few of his work friends. I'll set the slow cooker up with bowls next to it and they can all just help themselves. I'll serve it with bread fresh from the breadmaker.
This has turned into chicken stew! It was a bit too thick in the end and looks much more like a stew. I should have added some more water or stock, but it will still taste fantastic!Money, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.

This is my first post about slow cookers so hello everyone!
I got my slow cooker just over a week ago. So far I have cooked:
- Turkey breasts with loads of veg (parsnips, carotts, sweet potatoes) in a cream sauce
- Free range chicken breasts with chicken stock, cream and veg (carrotts, parnsips, mushrooms and potatoes).
Right now I'm cooking a topside of beef in there. I'm a bit nervous about this one. I think I may have put too much liquid in.I put some red wine and veg stock.

Oh yes - can someone tell me how long they think I should keep it in for? It went in at 10.30am and is on high. Thanks.0 -

Yesterday's first attempt at slow cooking was edible - the chicken breasts were a bit over cooked. You did not need a knife to cut them, in fact raising your voice was enough to make them fall apart. The sauce was tasty.
Still no cooker so ...in my slow cooker today I have:
Onion, celery, carrots, potatoes, green lentils, braising lamb, water and a curry spice mixture. I have put it on high - guessing that this will be for a couple of hours then turning down to low for 4 hours. Does that sound about right? Remember I am total novice so shout if I am wrong please.0 -
Fresh back from the shops so in mine tonight will be :-
Two tubs of lambs liver
Two medium onions
One pack of cooking bacon
One tin of toms
Chopped garlic
Two carrots
A bay leaf
We shall have liver, bacon & onions for tea and the rest will be turned into pots of pate for the freezermmmmmmmmmmmm!

Sounds ok, i usually cook everything overnight on low so not sure how long it will take with the timing and settings but it sounds like a tasty mealroot veg takes a while to cook so as long as its chopped up quite small all will be well. Good luck!

I veered from the meal plan a little bit today as I had more left over from yesterdays roast than initially thought :j. Also had a few rubber carrots left so threw carrots, onion and suede in with some chicken stock, white wine, leftover chicken and a few balls of breadcrumb stuffing (hhhmmmm, not sure about the last bit!!). Put in a little bit of cornflour to thicken. Hoping when I get home I have a lovely chicken casserole of sorts to go with toasted whoopsied french stick!![STRIKE]Saving for a deposit on a flat[/STRIKE]
