i've been away for most of 2 weeks (1 holiday, then visiting friends) and whilst the food was fantastic, i've been craving stew!
so today i've got woopsied stewing beef, carrots, onion, flour, mixed herbs, water, quick soaked dried peas and barley, Spitfire mustard, and thin sliced pots on top.
i might take off the pots, add dumplings and freeze 1/2 with the pots...Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -

Hi Lisa
Welcome to mse
It`s personal preference really, some people brown everything but others like me brown nothing and just throw it all inI`m lazy really and don`t want an extra pan to wash but find that things turn out just fine.

I think the only things I brown are sausages as they look aneamic otherwise!!!!!
got a friend around for dinner later so will just be having pizza and nibbles etc but while I am chucking them all in the oven I will be preparing my SC ready for tomorrow morning before I go to work so when I get home I will have beef in guinness and onions mmmmm!! all I will need to do then is some mashed potatoes to go with it!0 -
I`ve just filled the crockpot of my sc and popped it into the fridge.
I`ll take it out later when i get home from work and turn it on overnight.
I`m making tomato dahl which is one of Weezl74`s fantastic recipes, not had this for ages so i`m really looking forward to it. its a very :money:recipe and very tasty too. I must admit to just throwing the ingredients in though and not browning anything first as is usual for moi

Hi newcook
here it is http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=10897993&highlight=tomato+dahl+recipe#post10897993
its really nice, i`ve thrown an old red pepper in this time as it was lurking in the bottom of the fridge but the recipe is lovely just as it comes. I think that last time i made it i put in an extra tin of tomatoes but i`m not sure.

In my slow cooker today will be some sort of spicy chicken and chorizo stew. I've got a pack of 8 (or so) chicken thighs which I'll brown slightly with some flour then put into the slow cooker. Along with that I'll add a couple of those cooking chorizo sausages all chopped up, a tin of tomatoes, a crushed clove of garlic and some herbs, a chicken stock cube, some smoked paprika and dried chilli flakes. I never really measure quantities, but it won't be OTT. Anyway, the mixture will then cook while I'm doing stuff during the day and I'll let it cool down to go into the freezer to have another day. I can see it making fantastic pasta sauce, blitzed down to make a soup or just have it with mash. I'm looking forward to this one.
