Can't find the instruction/recipe booklet though and can't remember if you have to preheat the cooker before putting in the ingredients? If so, how long for please? It's a Tefal Oval one, creamy colour.
I'm fairly sure I read in a slow cooker cookery book that some older models need pre warming first, don't think it was for too long though - maybe half an hour if that helps at all.0 -

today : leftovers from yesterdays big turkey leg and veg stew. which, because i used up all the veg from the fridge had lots of carrot and celery and Garlic, so it tasted more italian than a stew. so i de-boned the meat and whizzed up most of the veg with a hand blender, added some tinned toms and we had a very tasty if unexpected homemade pasta sauce!Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. I'm after some suggestions please as everything I'm making in my slow cooker (apart from beef casserole) seems to be tomato based!!! It's getting a tad monotonous now lol.
Any suggestions please??0 -
Can anyone help me with the whole chicken recipe? I can't seem to find it anywhere
Just chop some chunky pieces of carrot and put your chicken on top of it. Add some stock if you want but not a lot as chicken tends to have a lot of liquid in it. Add some garlic or lemon.
As a rule I follow any one pot casserole recipie for the slow cooked and just wack everything in and turn on.0 -

Today I have a chicken casserole of sorts. I just threw it all in and hoped for the best!
2 (huge) chicken legs & thighs (all still connected - dunno what you'd call them? Leg joints?)
1 chopped parsnip that was looking past it's best
2 chopped carrotts
1 chopped onion
1 clove crushed garlic
Sprinkle of frozen peas, peppers and sweetcorn
Handful of porridge oats
3 chicken stock cubes in a couple of pints of water (probs would have got away with 2 but you live & learn lol)
Dash of white wine vinegar
Sprinkle of mixed herbs
Some of DH's dodgy hm chilli paste that we're trying to use up :rotfl:
Looks like once i've removed the chicken from the bone, there'll be enough for about 4 meals for 2 of us! Still, at least we'll be getting several of our 5 a day out of that lot. Am going to make some dumplings to go with it - bought vegetable suet today - have never made dumplings with suet in my life! Hope it works out. Was thinking of adding them about an hour before the end of cooking?

it's odd given that things in the s/c take hours more than on the hob, EXCEPT for dumplings! I make sure it's on med or high, and bubbling a little, and give them 25mins - 35 mins depending on how big/wide they are, 35 for a suet crust type topping. I guess it's because they are steaming so that's the same process either on the hob, in the oven or in the s/c.
oh, and i never weigh for dumplings - i didnt have scales at uni, so it's 1 shot glass suet, 2 shots of sr flour. :rotfl:good luck!Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23.
