Hi all, I had to start using my slow cooker as I don't have a kitchen at the moment, but I think it's been good as it has given me a reason to use it and learn new recipes.

    Yesterday's experiment:

Small tin tomatoes (I used the one with herbs)
    Tin canellini beans
    6 apple sausages
    tbsp dried onion soup
    splash worcester sauce

Cooked for about 5 hours in medium, still experimenting with low/med/high heats... I think this would be similar cooked for 10 hours in low, but haven't tried yet!

We ate it with jacked potatoes (cooked in the microwave!), it was quite nice!

Next time i might try it with chicken, as sausages are not really great for my pre-christmas diet! :)

You are welcome Sukeyboo. Please do like the page above though (on Facebook) it is great, I totally recommend it & have got lots of ideas from it & you get recipes through daily on your newsfeed (have liked similar sites too if you put in slowcooker/crockpot (American word for slow cooker) other groups come up also but the one above is friendly, English & people often share where the offers are on in our supermarkets to buy ingredients). The only thing is I seem to be shopping all the time now for ingredients & researching/ squiggling down recipes its like an obsession! Lol!. No, I seriously don't know why I never bought a slow cooker earlier, I only did because many of my friends on Facebook kept posting recipes etc from the site so looked at it & realised many of the simple dishes would suit us (Hubby is a really fussy eater but also got an unfussy growing 8yr old Son that constantly needs filling up! lol!) and then decided to buy a cheap one with great reviews from Argos to see how we go and its fab, so worth the money!.Can now have wholesome meals simmering away whilst I am sleeping the days from nightshifts where before we would often make do with easier teas when I am on my nights.x:)

    Hi Furny,

Could you point me in the right direction on Facebook? There seem to be serveral groups and then pages on slow cooker receipes that I can 'like' - which one is the one you belong to?

    Thanks very much :)

Hi Guys, 'Slow cooker recipe page' if you put it into the Facebook group page search engine it has a community of about 191, 450. I tried to do a link but it gave all my facebook page info etc. Hope you find it! x
  • Does anyone have a slow cooker recipe that will taste as near as possible to the Dolmio tomato and basil pasta sauce pouches. Son loves these but work out expensive for what they are and would be good to have a stock of sauce batched cooked ready in freezer.

    Hi,
Am thinking about investing in a slow cooker and had a couple of questions, I hope you don't mind me popping onto the thread. Did have a look at the index but it seems to mostly look at recipes.
Do slow cookers use less energy than cooking normally or is it only that it doesn't need constant attention that makes it preferrable? What's the benefits to using one as opposed to 'traditional' cooking?

Sorry if it sounds daft but I've only just moved into a house where I can have gadgets like this and I don't want to go crazy buying things that won't get used. I hear so much on the OS forums about these that I thought it might be a good place to start.

    Thanks

Lancashire hotpot in mine, recipe is from a Good Food slow cooker book and it looks DELICIOUS! :)

Was a bit faffy to prepare as it involved frying off lamb and veg first and adding flour etc but it looks like it will be worth it! Serving with some nice crusty bread :) I'll report back once done!
