Eeeek bought my sc today for the grand total of 50p!!!! Now I'm scared to death to use the thing "/ help!!

Use it and enjoy especially if using cheaper cuts of meat but I will say this...lately I have had enough for two meals and the second one I have reheated on the hob and it cooks really quickly.

I have a feeling that probably many meals in the slow cooker could be done in a saucepan/pressure cooker. And quickly but if you are not in a hurry(it uses less energy than a main cooker especially the oven)and you can chuck everything into it and leave it.

Especially, handy if you are out at work coming home to a hot meal. And you can leave it on so others who come home at different times have a comforting meal too. So the cooking a joint of meat(or a full chicken etc...)that's where it comes into it's own.

    50p what a bargain...:T

We made chocolate cobbler (or hot chocolate fudge cake as far as the kids were concerned) and it was delicious

Hi all, I gave away my large sc as I didn't use it and we didn't like the stews I did, I must have been rubbish lol
Everything in it tasted the same all the veg, everything
And I never knew what to do with all the fatty liquid at the end which is what everything tasted off, so never had any decent sauce or gravy
Now I think I want one again, there is just my 8 yr old and I so I think I'm going to get the small 1.5 l one and try again
    Ay suggestions please gratefully received
Even when I put in chicken breasts and sauce or soup it just tasted bland and nasty
Will have a good read through all these posts tonight and the recipes, thanks
    Never did master porridge either

I'm making soup from leftover christmas dinner. Added the chicken carcass, scraps of meat, cooked veg, gravy, garlic, chilli flakes, and spices. Will sieve, add lentils, and cooked scraps of meat, then blend.

I've just popped a whole chicken in mine with an inch or so of water and some bay leaves. It will sit in there until 9.30 tonight on high.

I will freeze some of it for another time, make sweet and sour with rice, and a curry with the rest. Of course, I will pick at some of it for a snack later ;) Yummy tender meat when I cook it in the SC :)
