    Hi

I am trying pork in cider today.

Does anyone know what to do with liquid, throw it or make gravy?

    HHx

Does this help? I hope so...

Are slow cookers worth the investment for vegetarians?

I would say most certainly, most of what I cook in it is vegetable based or meat dishes are bulked out but you know having watched Nigel Slater I realise that I can cook a stew on a hob in a sauce pan very quickly and probably not using much energy so there are a few options...

Thank you (again!) for the great shout out, Popperwell. I've been doing lots of slow cooker meals just lately and you'll find if you look in the Recipe Index that the slow cooker ones say "slow cooker" somewhere in the title! I can see I'll have to pick them out in some way, to make finding them easier. :)

I'm very grateful for your vote of confidence. :o So - have you entered the free draw for the Foreman & Field Beef Bourguignon box? It comes with all the ingredients required for the recipe - including 800g of finest beef brisket, some Port and Red wine! :T

Sorry I missed your post Jenny, and your competition competition...I do hope to get the chance to go through your blog in greater detail soon and use many of your recipes as I am getting more interested in food again and sometimes cooking for one you don't bother, also when the budget is low...but I am well stocked up now and need to use what I have to create space for new items...

Equally how nice that I have variety and by being well stocked up I can divert money to other things such as staying warm during the Winter months or possibly treating myself in some way...

Butternut squash soup is bubbling nicely thanks lol I usually make on the stove but since learning I can do in slow cooker it has been fab. I got a chicken out the freezer thursday evening but didnt get round to cooking it yesterday so needed to do it today so used oven for that and slow cooker for the soup. Im in the process of bidding on ebay for an oval slow cooker (bigger one too ) then I will have 2 on the go at once yay go me oven free for bread instead lol
  • Hi, new to this thread as I want to start using my slow cooker more.

I wonder if this is an extremely stupid question however, here goes......

Can I use frozen meat in the slow cooker and cook it all day. I am terrible at getting the meat out of the freezer the night before. I am not talking joints but chops and cuts/fillets of meat.

And on days I do not cook for us, can I freeze the food in plastic pots and heat it up in the microwave when we want it another time or does it depend what it is?

    Thanks.

I was going to link to a recipe but found too many...use a search engine and say something like minute steak in a slow cooker;)one good thing, it proves you can do it in slow cooker but probably it will take longer to do but will be tasty I am sure, good luck:)

Got a casserole going on in my SC as I write this...OK I cheated using a soup mix all prepared and added a few extra's myself and some chopped streaky bacon...will use the water to make some gravy...
