This a great site with many ideas for mainly inexpensive meals but ease of cooking and many can be adapted to being prepared in a slow cooker. Loads of ideas in the recipe index...

Thank you (again!) for the great shout out, Popperwell. I've been doing lots of slow cooker meals just lately and you'll find if you look in the Recipe Index that the slow cooker ones say "slow cooker" somewhere in the title! I can see I'll have to pick them out in some way, to make finding them easier. :)

I'm very grateful for your vote of confidence. :o So - have you entered the free draw for the Foreman & Field Beef Bourguignon box? It comes with all the ingredients required for the recipe - including 800g of finest beef brisket, some Port and Red wine! :T

Hi, I used the M@ggi kit I had in my SC & it worked just fine, thank you for your help.

I have another question though, I have approx 6 jars of P@taks curry paste from AF. My question is, would it be ok to make curry in a SC using coconut milk, i'm concerned that it might split if it's cooked over a long period of time?

Has anyone else done this at all, I've got a 5 month old at home so don't have tonnes of time on my hands, hence me wanting to put it in a SC. I can just bung it all in when the LO is napping & leave it alone all day to do it's stuff, then it's ready after bath & bed for us to sit down to dinner.
  • Yesterday I had a pulled pork shoulder in Cherry Coke, with half a bottle of Reggae Reggae Ketchup,2 chopped onions, 2 cloves of garlic, and a few drops of hot pepper sauce. It was gorgeous!

  • Hi there, l managed to get 3 lovely large pork shanks from morrisons for the grand total of £3.50 which i thought was a bargain my question is does anyone have any ideas as to how to cook them in my slow cooker, l know they are a chewy pary of the pig but also know the sc will remedy that but want to know should l seal it in a frying pan first or just wash and put in sc to cook in its own juices.

...I read about some of you using in your SC.

Are these the normal Colmans/Schwartz/supermarket OB powdered sachets things?

I'm getting a bit bored with everything coming out of my SC tasting a bit 'samey' so was thinking adding one of these might give it a bit of an oomph.

What do I do? Do I follow the same make up instructions for the non-SC method, and will it thicken like it does in the oven of will I need to ticken as I normally have to with SC stews etc?

I'm going to get some shin of beef at the weekend, as that's my most successful cut, any suggestions for a yummy one to try with it would be much appreciated.

  • I've got a bit of a SC backlog at the moment :D
Whole chicken in for today's (and tomorrow's) dinner
Then chicken stock for broth overnight
Then spicy pumpkin soup (which I also use as a curry sauce)

I'm hoping the element won't mind the hard work! Then again it's new so if it doesn't it's back to Mr T!
  • Hi

I am trying pork in cider today.

Does anyone know what to do with liquid, throw it or make gravy?
