  • Made beef stew yesterday - left it overnight on low and had it for lunch today as OH was/is out with his friends this afternoon/pm!! Thought I had better line his stomach!!

Pack of stewing steak, chopped onion or two, leftover veggies, some mushrooms, bottle of ale, carton of passatta and some herbs, wacked in some dumplings 30 mins before and served with crusty bread.. So full up, I didn't want tea tonight!
Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:

Well, I did a kind of stew in mine yesterday(virtually every vegetable you can think of plush mushrooms/gravy/garlic and chicken pieces)

Decantered into a container for the fridge and yes I'll be eating the same meal for the next few days. Had there been room I'd have put it in the freezer.

So I am now heating some of what I did in a saucepan on the hob...but that won't take long to do and it is cooked already.

  • chicken curry yesterday, and cottage pie base today. Should do 3, one for tomorrow and two for the freezer.

I have two slow cookers, both are 3.5ltr oval ones, got talking to OH's SiL to be's mum over Christmas, she doesn't use her 6.5ltr oval one, and it now lives at my house :j

It's huge, you could bath a baby in it! I quite often use the slowies for hot buffets when we have friends round, so I'm very pleased :D
  • just like to say thanks to all who have posted on here.

Bought a 6.5l breville 2 months ago as a complete novice to slow cooking.having tried stews and casseroles

I thought today i would be adventurous. picked up an asda chicken for £1.98 at close of store yesterday.this morning at 10am i washed it ,put 1/2 pint of boiling water with a bisto chicken stock cube into pot, half a small onion inside the chicken and place breast down in to pot and put on Auto....

Took chicken out at 5pm and it was lovely, plenty of taste, and fell off the bone. Having had a chicken dinner out of it, i still have loads left, half of which will make a sweet and sour for tommorows tea.

my question is, i had about 1 litre of liquid left over which ive put into a bottle....its now sort of set. can i take the fat off the top and use with the remaining chicken to make a soup ?

sorry for the long post..so chuffed that i ve managed to cook !!!:j

I have heard that is possible and a few on here do...I suspect a few will be along to explain soon and I will be interested to learn more too.

Most definitely use it for soup...that's proper chicken stock, I tend to add a stock cube too though :)

    Hi
Is it right that to make a gammon in cola that you add 2lts of cola to it. How long should I leave it to cook for on high.
    Thank you.
