Doing refried beans in mine today, got 2 packets of wraps, cheese and hot sauce and will make about 16 wraps to put in the freezer. They take 2 minutes to heat from frozen in the microwave, my DS15 loves them as a snack which is great as they are very healthy, just dont tell him lol

That sounds good, how do you do the retried beans?

I cooked a gammon in mine yesterday so using the stock from that I'm making lentil soup in there today...didn't even have to wash the crockpot out after the first meal which is always a bonus! ;)

    Hi all,

Can someone help please? Just bought a new SC and it says everything should go in to it very hot (actually it said boiling)

Do you do this, or just start from scratch, ie cold?

My SC has high, low and warm functions.

So do i start everything off in a pot on the stove first to bring it up to temp?

    More washing up so!

depending on how long you are cooking for.. but remember it takes a while to get to cooking temp. At the most i normally just heat what stock i am using in the microwave just warming it I suppose..

  • Got a whoopsied ham joint from Mr T's yesterday so that's in, on its own, with just some water, an onion and a few mixed herbs. Will then use the stock for some lentil soup I think.

I have one like that - I heat liquids before pouring in (except when adding a slug of wine), and sometimes dryfry veggies before adding them but it really depends how I feel, what time I have etc etc.

I do usually brown the meat before putting that in, and that takes the chill off - but that's not why I do it. :) And I don't normally add anything straight from the fridge but leave it to get to room temp if necessary.

I used to have one where you could just chuck everything inat the start & it heated up pretty quickly but I gave that one to a friend - too large for us now anyway.
  • The ham I did is delicious, I'm trying to resist picking bits off it. Have left the liquid in, and thrown in some lentils, a tin of tomatoes, some random veg and some herbs and spices.
