In my slow cooker today.... part 2

I tried to make a stew in mine last week, was a disaster. After 7 hours the potatoes were still hard. Though the meat was lovely and soft. Where did I go wrong?
Could you par boil veg in a saucepan or do as I do now quite often if you are able and don't mind...dice/chop and slice the veg so it smaller? And so you don't lose goodness you could use the water from the pan to continue cooking the veg in the sc and use it for gravy or stock. I should add none of my meals have dried out using the roasting bags...no matter how many hours the sc has been on..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. If the SC is large enough you can do the vegetables in another bag and cook them at the same time...or steam them in a microwave or do the veg reasonably quickly on the hob...
I'd not thought about that before. I get tired of soaking mine. Is it ok to use the stock created as normal?New forum. New sig. Yes I still need to lose 2 stone!0 -
Missli,
So far it has worked every time...and really all you are doing is putting the same food in the SC but instead of it going in the pot it is in the roasting bag...if the bag fails rarely at worst the liquid is in the pot...
Often I can lift the bag out and pour contents on to the plate you will be eating from or into another bowl/dish. But the sc remains much cleaner and saves some work.
Good luck Lanny and Missli:)

Thats annoying when that happens. Its so easy to add too much liquid. Broccolis nice in soups, but can go soft with other recipes, but does stink! :rotfl:
Can it not be rescued with some salt, or marigold veg powder, and/or some cornflour? Shame to waste.
I rescued the meat and potatoes and did some gravy and had that for my tea instead - the rest was just a stinky mush!0 -
A day for comfort food, so gently cooking in my slow cooker are low fat sausages, smoked bacon lardons, onions, whole garlic cloves, grated courgette and carrot, green lentils and lots of smoked paprika. Smells lush! To be served with sweet and ordinary potato mash and sweetheart cabbage.0

Yesterday we had a gorgeous beef stew done in the slow cooker and today I did pulled pork with barbeque sauce served in bread rolls with home made wedges on the side.
The pork was lovely it just melted really tender.1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480

Doing refried beans in mine today, got 2 packets of wraps, cheese and hot sauce and will make about 16 wraps to put in the freezer. They take 2 minutes to heat from frozen in the microwave, my DS15 loves them as a snack which is great as they are very healthy, just dont tell him lol“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
