A quick question, hopefully someone can help.

I have a large oval 6.5 ltr slow cooker & have loads of those Maggi kits where you get a roasting bag & sachet of seasoning, my question is do you think it would be possible to cook this in my SC.

They take around 1-1 1/2 hour in my usual oven & I am conscious of how much electricity this uses.

I have an oval pyrex dish that i could put it in, would it still work in the same way?

    Thanks

In the slow cooker I have sausages in a caramelised onion gravy, I will serve this with mashed potato and green beans..

I did the worst stew ever last Friday! Its my own fault – I was rushing and put too much water, not enough veg and not enough seasoning. I also thought it would be a good idea to add broccoli - it wasn’t, I came home to find the house smelt of farts!!!

I have done that and do all my slow cooker meals in roasting bags...and it usually saves having to wash, clean the actual pot...in the states they have a product that lines the pot so what you are asking and what I am doing is a similar idea...

Thats annoying when that happens. Its so easy to add too much liquid. Broccolis nice in soups, but can go soft with other recipes, but does stink! :rotfl:

Can it not be rescued with some salt, or marigold veg powder, and/or some cornflour? Shame to waste.

That's great thanks!!! Hopefully won't have to use the oven quite so much now, every penny counts!

Lanny, 10 large roasting bags in Wilkinsons approx £1.10 you can even put a full chicken in one of them and often don't need to add any moisture as lots come out of the chicken. If the SC is large enough you can do the vegetables in another bag and cook them at the same time...or steam them in a microwave or do the veg reasonably quickly on the hob...

I tried to make a stew in mine last week, was a disaster. After 7 hours the potatoes were still hard. Though the meat was lovely and soft. Where did I go wrong?

Put potatoes, and other hard veg at the bottom, underneath the meat. Vegetables take longer to cook in the slow cooker, whilst meat requires less cooking time.

I often put mine on high for 1/2 hour at the start, before switching to low to help cooking time.
