Thanks for the earlier question of how to do a whole chicken in slow cooker, logged on to ask same question. For those that have done it did you get more meat of the base of the chicken and was this meat less greasy than when it is roasted in its own juices?

    thanks

    Less greasy yes.

I normally sit the chicken on an upturned saucer. Another option is to make balls of tin foil (about the size of a golf ball or ping pong ball) and sit your chicken on those.

I only put about ¼ inch ½ cm of water in the bottom, which is enough to provide the air seal around the lid. You'll find that the volume of liquid increases as your chicken cooks.

Today mine is a "chuck it all in casserole"

    stewing steak
    carrots
    potato
    swede
    mushrooms
    chopped tomatoes
    butter beans
    1 pint beef stock
    red wine
    mixed herbs
    salt and pepper
Has been simmering all day and smells lovely, hope it tastes as good as it smells
  • Ive got a ham and vegetable stew in mine but I dont like the look of it.:( Been cooking for 4hours and it still looks like a load of chopped veg in water TBH...
Im new at slow cooking so not sure what to do to make it come together. Should I put it on high, or decant some of the stock, or decant and replace with tinned toms??

Is the water/stock bubbling? If not you could turn it up to high for 30-60 mins to get it going. I cooked pork in mine on sat, had it on high for first half hour then low for next 5/6 hours. Good luck! I'm sure it'll be yummy.

Thanks, just put it on high!! Im still abit nervous about using my slow cooker.:o its def worth it though...once I make a batch of crusty rolls I will have 6-7 meals for the freezer and I love the 'chuck everything in and ignore' style of cooking!!LOL
  • First time ever using one today! At home I have a beef and ale pie in mine, very excited about seeing if it comes out.

Out of interest if it’s too liquidy (which it looked like this morning) how do I use cornflour to thicken it? I bought some for this, BUT haven’t used it before.

Do I just stir it in, or something else?

    HELP!
