Hi Blondy24 - I am ashamed to say that I now have 3 slow cooker books, although from the people on this thread there should really be no need for any books at all!! Pleased to say that I didn't spend much on any of them though.

I didn't like the Hamlyn one as a lot of the recipes seemed to require additional cooking after the SC (eg put under the grill, put in normal oven).

I don't have this one, but want it!! I have the student curry one in the same series and it is superb.

Picked this up from charity shop for £2. Its very good and varied, and they seem to be a fan of "chuck it all in" which is great for me. Lots of different recipes, but ingredients easy to get hold of. This is the first one I turn to for inspiration.

Got this for £2.49 from WH Smith. My first book, and its not bad.

This is the second one I turn to for inspiration. Recipes are good, and also indexed by time so you can select a quicker cooking one if you are short on time. Think it was a fiver from The Works.

If you do really want books for inspiration, then the WH smith one is worth it for £2.49, otherwise pop into The Works and have a look, and remember to have a quick look into your local charity shops - you never know!!

I'm a real recipe follower and panic if I don't have instructions!!!

    Eighth Anniversary Combo Breaker
    Hi all

I've been lurking around this forum for a while now getting inspiration for my slow cooker (which i love!:))

Having used it yesterday to slow cook a chicken I just wanted to come on and give a big thank you to everyone! :T

Particularly as the chicken has given me enough meat for:
    (individual portions)

    3 chicken curry &rice
3 chicken pie filling wrapped in puff pastry
(plus extra portion for making as chicken pie properly)
    1 chicken dinner
enough chicken for 3 sandwiches and a small portion to freeze for stir fry at later date

PLUS i used the carcass for stock, which is currently being turned into a veg soup with hopefully enough for 4 portions.

All in all, 1 small chicken has given me enough for approx 15 lunches/dinners. :j :j
not bad - just a shame my freezer is now full to the gunnels and i cant do anymore slow cooking til its emptied! :rotfl:

    Thanks again everyone!

I have a YS unsmoked gammon joint in mine today. Its currently bubbling gently with the juice from a small can of pineapple. I will be adding the fruit for the last hour or so to warm it through.

  • Beef brisket joint. I'd imagine we'll have some for tea, then make various stews/cottage pies with the rest. Should do at least 3 days anyway.
