Its a 6.6ltr Morphy Richards, left on from 6.30am - 5pm on low. In my old Swan one this would have been fine.

I have a timer switch but with the weather warming (well it will do) I dont want food left out.

One of mine is the 6.1L MR too and i do find that it cooks quicker than my 3.5L tesco value one.

In summer if you take food straight from the fridge and put it in the sc just prior to leaving the house and use the timer to switch on a couple of hours after you leave it should be fine.

I understand very well about not leaving food out in the hotter months but the SC is very well insulated and it should be ok for a couple of hours, the heat shouldn`t start outside until later and should take a while to filter through into the kitchen. Have you got anywhere to put it away from a window/the sun? A timer as suggested by whiteguineapig should work fine and i`ve done this myself a few times when using the larger sc. If in doubt throw a few ice cubes in the top too.

Glad that you`re going to give it another go, i used mine all last summer even in the hotter months and we had no problems. Its so convenient and the kitchen stays so much cooler without having the oven on.

In mine later will be another lovely FR chicken :D We seem to be eating quite a lot of chicken lately and i`m still not fed up with it :D

Yesterday I cooked pork shoulder (currently HALF PRICE in Tesco) in Fiery Ginger beer - OMG, gorgeous. Heartily recommend this recipe: http://www.waitrose.com/recipe/Ginger-glazed_pork_hocks.aspx (obviously I used pork shoulder and Tesco not Waitrose ingredients but same difference ;))

I have another pork joint (actually the second half of the same joint) in the freezer for a repeat performance next week!

Two £3.99/kilo smoked bacon joints from Sbugs - one for dinner tonight and one to slice thinly for families sarnies during the week.

never had a bad joint of brisket in my SC, all melt in the mouth. So should be fine.

Ive got a whole chicken in today for Sunday dinner.
I prefer cooking my whole chickens in there as its so moist when it comes out, makes it easier to strip the carcass for leftovers.
    Happy days

Came onto MSE today in a desperate attempt to find out how to reduce both my food bills and my electricity bill (just received the biggest one ever ) and it appears that slow cooking could make a difference to both. Have ordered the Cookworks 422/8826 from Argos and will pick it up this afternoon. My problem with cooking is lack of time and the fact that I spent most evenings after work taking my 3 kids to their various sports sessions meaning that I am not physically in the house to cook - if only I could work out how to clone myself ;). In the meantime I'll give this a go but can someone please tell me if I'll be able to cook meat/potatoes/veg at the same time and if so, how do you work out the timings? Thanks

    Hi Polly

yes you can cook everything together. I just throw everything in together and hope for the best and its usually a good result :D

I hope that you like your new sc - i`m sure that you will.

There is a thread here which may help.

Also if you have a look through this very thread then you will get some good ideas.
