Sausage & 3 bean casserole in mine today.
Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.
  • Will be putting in braising steak, onions and gravy granules at lunchtime.

I often use packet casserole mixes in my SC. Usually use the Colemans ones and put in 3/4 pint of water. Sauce is fine when cooked.
  • Beef curry with onions and mushrooms in mine today:)

Left over stock from pork joint and the subsequent gammon joint I cooked yesterday, with some soup mix which was soaked overnight and a couple of cubed peeled potatoes (because last time I made it, #3 son said it was too salty) It's been a lifesaver as I have a stinking cold and done something to my knee, so I'm having to rest.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

    Hi.
I wondered if anyone could help me with a recipe with pork mince in the slow cooker. Does anybody use mince in the SC? I have some bits of veg (carrot, celery leek, parsnip) left in the fridge and some dried herbs and stock cubes, chopped tomatoes, mixed pulses etc - could even use an apple to make some sort of pork and apple dish or some other concoction?
Would appreciate any ideas -only had my new slow cooker a couple of weeks. Thanks.:)

Hi, it did not turn out too tasty, the beef was really tender but flavour wasn't as I hoped. I just added chopped beef, onions, mushrooms, tinned toms, curry paste and a bit of chilli, think I def need to experiment with different spices next time!

I`ve never cooked mince in the sc before and normally i never precook any meat before adding it but i do think that i would fry mince off with some onions and possibly garlic.

This should hopefully solve any flavour problems with it being a bit bland.

Bev - I`ve not cooked pork mince in mine before as whenever i buy it i end up making HFW`s pork pie recipe - i`ve now ended up having to start a diet cos i can`t fit in my clothes :o:D

Hope that you get some answers soon.

  • i have a large gammon and 4 chicken pieces and am fed up of all the useual things i do with both and fancy a change. son now working full time bless him and he does all the cooking usually so daughter is going to do mondays and i have said i will do one day a week too. i have trouble standing or sitting for any length of time if moving my arms around at same time (problem with back) but am sure with my trusted slo cooker and some of the fab recipes on here i am sure i can produce a lovely meal one night a week, would prefer a one pot thing so dont need to do anything once its in cooker besides dish it up. am getting very organised to help out with a menu planner and a chore rota. so something nice with either the chicken, 4 pieces of salmon or the gammon would be lovely pleasee

A whole chicken, with whole onions, whole cloves of garlic, a couple of tomatoes, and a lemon shoved in its cavity. Sprinkled seasalt, thyme, allspice, paprika, and some hot pepper sauce over the top.
