My big one has a very small crack in it too
Its only at the top so i`m keeping a close eye on it.
I had dog food in mine last night and today i have a lovely piece of brisket in, i`ve run out of guinness to cook it in though so its just got an oxo and some onions in with it this time.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Chicken and veg stew in my mega sized SC. DH's recipe which he made up!!! It's lots of root veg chopped up, couple of chicken breasts chopped, worcester sauce, squirt of HP, one tin baked beans, mixed herbs, water, tinned toms, a tin of kidney beans and possibly other things, that I can't remember. Plus homemade dumplings for the last hour.
It sounds like a lot of ingredients, but it will feed two of us for at least three meals (i will freeze some of it for other times) It is absolutely delicious and very filling and healthy!

Today I made a stew using a beef cassorle packet mix. This is only my second time using the s c. Not so happy with the result. As I've seen mentioned by other people, this turned out very watery, it didn't have any "body" to it. Has anyone else used packet mixes? how can i stop it from being "watery"? I've ordered a reciepe book from the library, hoping to get some helpful info.0

I have never used a packet mix in the slow cooker but you probably only need about half the amount of water that you would put in a casserole that you cook in the oven.
Apparently Schwartz have brought out packetmixes designed for the slow cooker0 -
RayArt, don't be afraid to reduce the amount of liquid these packet mixes tell you to add - they take into account evaporation from conventional cooking, which you don't get with a slow cooker because the lid is so well sealed.
I bought a small piece of 'boneless rolled shoulder' on special offer from Sainsbugs for about £5.40. Slow cooked it on high for about 4 hours, temp tested it and it went all the way round to 'turkey'Took it out, removed the skin sprinkled it with salt and popped that in the oven for an hour at 150 degrees, then cranked it up to 200 degrees with the aunt Bessie potatos for 40 mins - result the best pork crackling ever according to my kids!
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
