  • Whole chicken in mine, sat on a bed of carrots and a splash of water. First time for whole chicken, hoping to get 3 meals for me and DS out of it!
  • I have lovely Indian dhal in mine...smells gorgeous! It'll be my lunch for the next few days or so - if it'll last!

i've done rice pudding which came out absolutly gorgeous. a friend said add a bit of vanilla to it. but never cooked savoury rice.

yes, I've tried rice pud in mine - far too yummy (esp as kids don't like it so I end up eating it all!) but I'd like to try a savoury dish with rice. I tried a chicken and rice dish the other day but it was v stodgy. I like the idea of having the whole meal in one pot - meat, veg and carbs - but maybe spuds would be better option

I want to try Delias Hung Shao pork from this weeks Waitrose recipes in mine today, she done it in a casserole dish so I'm sure it will be fine. I just can't decide how to change the recipe she says to put the cubed pork belly in skin side down with soy sauce, water, star annise & cinnamon and cook for 45mins. Then turn the pork sprinkle with sugar and rice wine and cook for a further 45 mins. I'm in all day so I happy to turn it over half way and add the extra bits but how long does everyone reckon I should I do as its a slow cooker rather than a casserole dish in the oven??
  • I've got venison sausages that I fried first on a bed on puy lentil, onions and carrots with ruby port and veg stock. Yum Yum.

First time making it mind so will have to keep an eye on it to make sure the lentil have enough liquid :D

    Hi all!

Been given a crockpot by mum. Need ideas what to cook in it!

    We like:

    Beef
    Chicken
    Sausages
    duck
    Anything hot and spicy/smelly/garlicky

    I hate: Lamb

    DH hates:
Chicken on the bone, anything greasy/gloopy or bland, soup, pork (although if tender-like pot roast he does like it-his mum does a mean pot roast pork studded with garlic in pressure cooker which is delicious) cauliflower, broccoli, butternut squash, pumpkin

All the recipes i've found contain most things that DH dislikes.

Any ideas please? We both like beans (all sorts of) and lentils, cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, parnips.

The obvious ones are curries, chili con c, sausage cassserole; But I would like some new ideas if poss. I want to impress my MIL next time she visits. My cooking is diabolical when she comes, it always goes a bit Pete Tong.

    Thanks in advance!

If OH likes pork when tender, I'd recommend putting in a pork joint with BBQ sauce. We make Jamie Oliver's but bottled would do fine too. When it's cooked, it should be soft enough to pull apart with two forks-forming pulled pork, an american favourite. can be served with rice or jacket spud. If we are entertaining I make corn bread and serve with candied carrots. Nom nom nom!
